**Edit**Just spoke to coworker and she's willing to pay $500 for a computer and monitor.

Basically, her son wants to record his XBOX gaming onto the desktop and upload to youtube. He also needs a monitor.

Whats the best bang for the buck to get this done for under $500?

Ok, lets pretend they dont want to go with an xbox one.

What's a good capture card that they can throw into a basic desktop with good RAM and processor?

Yeah why would you not buy an xbox one if you're willing to spend $500.

-Also how old is this kid? Maybe he's too young to be sitting in front of the tv for hours on end.

Maybe the games he wants to record aren't on the Xbone and that stupid piece of shit isn't backwards compatible.

Oh it's not? Don't really follow consoles. That sucks.

He's 13. Doesn't want xbone. Also, they want to get him a PC for his schoolwork.

She should buy him a bicycle with the money.

In all seriousness.

Does he just want to record the game play, or actually play games on the PC? your going to end up with different specifications based on the use case.

Yeah a 13 year old needs a bicycle not a computer to record his games.

but the title of the thread is gaming desktop...

In any case, buy one of the usb capture things (I linked to one earlier). then go and buy a laptop or desktop with a quad core processor and 4-8 gb of ram and set it and forget it.

What kind of shitheel parents are willing to spend more than $50 so their shitheel kid can fucking record his video games? Jesus wept, there are people starving to death in the United States of America, and this dumb broad is asking this idiot to make this stupid thread so her stupid kid can record a stupid video game. Five hundred dollars, you could save lives. Get the fuck out of here with this.

I like how we're all trying to tell the parents how to raise their kids in a tech talk thread about gaming.

Would you not tell Hitler he shouldn't be imprisoning and killing Jews if he posted a thread asking which IBM tabulator solution would be best for tracking high volumes of prisoners in concentration camps?

It's rare that a FroshKiller post warrants this type of response, but...here goes.

XB1 will soon be able to upload straight to YouTube, not just TwitchTV; also Microsoft is said to be looking into supporting X360 games via emulation.

Half the problem is that my coworker doesnt know what the hell she's talking about, therefore is having a hard time relaying hte info to me.

From what I could gather, he has an xbox360 that he JUST GOT a few months ago. They will not be upgrading to Xbone anytime soon. He has one game that he is addicted to, and will be for quite a while. He just wants to record his gameplay onto the PC, and post to youtube. That's it.

They want to go the PC/laptop route so that he can do homework on it too/use it for school (although we all know it'll be a porn machine...he's 13).

I'm just going to suggest they get a laptop with the $50 dongle referenced above. Win/Win.

Kids these days. I wasn't even allowed a console until I had the freedom to buy one myself in college. I never did.

On the contrary. I grew up outdoors, biking, camping, playing music. Looking back I'm glad I wasn't allowed a console to waste my childhood away.

You never got to painfully stammer through nintendo games without the use of the internet. Zelda's second quest FTW -- it was hard as shit.

I didn't say I didn't play on occasion. I did have friends. I did however get a gameboy in middle school so I wasn't completely lame.
