I just got a conversion van and I am hoping to have it painted (red and white for tailgating). There are a couple really old threads about this and I am wondering if anyone has done it recently and has a shop recommendation. I am looking for a good paint job, I want this to last 10+ years but I would like it to be reasonably priced for a good job.

Also, does anyone know a good way to help visualize paint colors on a vehicle. I think all red with some white accent stripes might be too much. Is there a program that lets you throw color on a generic vehicle?

if it's a tailgating rig.... let's go a step farther.

a 'clean & spray' job's going to run you about $750-1000

any real sanding/bodywork is going to be ~$2500 and up


what's your intended budget?

I had originally thought it would cost around $3000 to $3500. I want it to look nice for quite a few years.

a "t" would have made a world of difference in the thread title. I am not a good typist.

So nobody has a good recommendation? So far I have a couple people telling me the damn thing is too big for their booths, one guy saying 10 grand + to do it, and several others that want me to bring it by to get a price. I will be hitting up a few places in the next week but I would love to have some personal shop feedback before I do.

I've called around a few places in West Raleigh & Cary recently b/c I'm looking to have the Bronco repainted, and I was getting quotes for $2000-3000 for sanding it down and starting over, but that didn't include the door jams (not that I'd paint those anyway).

RJ&G does good work, but they're really expensive.

If i do my own body work what should I use for primer until I can get paint on it ?

I'm a firm believer in PPG DP40 epoxy chromate primers. The big catch is that they are nasty as hell for you and the environment. Great stuff, and actually can serve as a very effective moisture barrier between body filler and metal.
