Breaking news, Small Cessna crashed. Grandfather crashes 2nd time with grandson on board.
The kids need to be taken away, if he crashed with one of his grand kids before, why would you let your child fly with him? 4/27/2014 6:32:25 PM

My grandpa crashed his plane with my uncle. They did not get a chance to fly again. But it was engine failure, so I don't know that if they had survived it would have kept him from flying 4/27/2014 7:04:01 PM

Where did the dude get money for 3 airplanes and why does he still have a license?
How is he allowed to fly at that age? Are there not every so often checks like a drivers license? 4/28/2014 6:33:14 PM

Granted I know very little about aviation but judging by that beautiful bean footage, between the guy getting up there in age and the amount of rolling mounds on that landing strip is just a recipe for disaster. Being bordered on one end by a highway and the other by trees isnt the best situation either. He needs to either fly lighter bodied planes or just pony up and fly out of somewhere longer. 4/28/2014 6:40:57 PM

An Ercoupe is already a very small, light plane, famous for it's safe design, that can operate out of short runways.
They're only about $20k. Plenty of people have multiple airplanes, particularly if one is very inexpensive. Also, there's an air park in Apex where people live in a community with a runway and hangars. I bet a lot of them have multiple airplanes. There are also shitloads of 74-year old pilots.
It sounds like those were mostly fairly minor accidents, but they were probably enough to have a damage report filed on the airplane(s). Loss of engine power on takeoff is likely just bad luck on his part. The other two sound like he was at the very least partly to blame. Sounds like he's either a shitty stick, or has shitty judgment, or both. 4/28/2014 7:42:15 PM

i've flown out of that airstrip, almost put a Super Cub into the trees when the strong cross breeze decided to quickly change directions 4/28/2014 8:18:10 PM

I know they're supposed to be stall/spin proof, but that doesn't mean a lot when you don't have enough altitude or power. And that whole coupled aileron/rudder thing with no rudder pedals...would you want to battle crosswinds with that setup?
I have a good friend who lost her father about three years ago...in an Ercoupe. Taking off from a grass field. He lost power and put it into the trees. 4/29/2014 10:19:48 AM

An Ercoupe is probably pretty close. It may even be completely spin proof. 4/30/2014 11:01:09 PM
