For many years Trans Am and Camaro were the same car with different body kits. So yes that is technically a Camaro, with a 1 off body kit.

This thread should be RIP Buick if it wasn't for the Government targeting Pontiac. Pontiac was outselling Buick, but Buick is big in Asia. Pontiac was positioning themselves to be a niche car group, all their cars were going to be RWD, would have been cool to see a RWD G5.

That's a nice way of saying they weren't selling any cars.

O RLY?

Pontiac sold 178,300 cars in 2009. Buick sold 447,000 in 2009.

Buick sold 1,032,331 cars in 2013.

BUT IT'S THE GUBMENT'S FAULT!!!!

Why am I posting in synapse thread. The government ordered Pontiac shutdown, not GM.

Quote :
"2008 GM Vehicle Sales
Chevrolet 1,801,131
GMC 376,996
Pontiac 267,348
Saturn 188,004
Cadillac 161,159
Buick 137,197
Hummer 27,485
Saab 21,368
Total 2,980,688"

Of course Buick sold more in 2009 after everyone knew Pontiac was a dead man walking.

Yeah not as we know it.

But that's not the same as the government ordering them to shutdown Pontiac.

Yes it is.

" Lutz: "Feds said, 'we're giving you 60 billion dollars. Drop Pontiac or you won't get the cash.'""

Quote :
"The Feds basically wanted to get GM down to Cadillac and Chevrolet. They said, "you don't need all these brands. You need one prestige brand, and one mass-market brand." And we said "well we can't get rid of Buick because Buick is important in China, and if Buick becomes an orphan in the United States then the Chinese are no longer gonna be interested in it." And the Feds said "Fair enough, but everything else goes." We said well we'd also like to keep GMC. They said "well, GMC is basically just like Chevrolet," and we said "that may be true, there may be a lot of shared components, but GMC has an entirely different image, a different customer base, and people are willing to pay different prices for a GMC, and here's the profitability," and the Feds said "whoops, okay, keep GMC."

So now we had Buick, GMC, Cadillac, and Chevrolet, and then, I wanted, badly wanted, to keep Pontiac, because Pontiac was on its way back, and it had been mismanaged for a number of years, you know, with 'rebuild excitement,' and the excitement was only in the plastic body cladding, mechanically there was nothing about Pontiac in the 90s that would make your heart beat faster. And with the solstice and solstice coupe, and with the Pontiac G8, which was a great car. We were embarked on a strategy of making pontiac different from the rest of GM in that Pontiac wouldn't get any front wheel drive cars, they would all be rear-wheel drive, and the next G6, was going to use the architecture of the cadillac ATS, it was going to be a 3-series sized rear-wheel Pontiac, with basically the Cadillac ATS 'de-premiumized,' obviously, a lot of the cost taken out, but still fundamentally that architecture."

[Edited on April 30, 2014 at 11:34 AM. Reason : if pontiac lived you'd own a G6 ]

I'm sorry. Those things were huge pieces of shit. There's a reason you don't see them on the road much anymore...

"There are a great many people who've owned Grand Ams, they're a cheap source of transportation, and while there are a few which made it a couple hundred thousand miles, they're by and large terrible, terrible cars. Unless you got the GT models, styling was yawn-inducing, the interiors were committee designed with Fisher-Price grade materials, and the awful suspensions and automatic transmissions sucked the entertainment value out of even the most enjoyable roads."

I thought they pretty much always were? Or are you talking about how it looks even more like one than it did in the past? Like they didn't even TRY to restyle it?
