The inheritance pattern of androgenetic alopecia is unclear because many genetic and environmental factors are likely to be involved. This condition tends to cluster in families, however, and having a close relative with patterned hair loss appears to be a risk factor for developing the condition."

Finally used the razor this past weekend. Took me forever though. Going to have to speed it up if I decide to go that route.

It gets easier. I'm not currently doing it but have in the past. Your scalp gets less sensitive and you can get through it pretty quick. I used to just do it in the shower every couple of days.

Yeah I'm doing it in the shower too. Was a little faster this morning. Do you use any special razor? I used a cheap two blade BIC knock off razor. Also do you go against the grain? Some places it seems almost impossible.

Mach 3 against the grain. I like shaving in front of the sink vs in the shower.

I use the same Mach 3 I've used since I started shaving. I usually take care of it once a week, and it'll take me around 5 extra minutes in the shower. After a while you don't need a mirror you can tell spots you've missed just by running your hand over your head.

I tried going once every 3 days or so and wound up irritating my scalp more than it was worth, plus since I'm mostly just working during the week I don't have anyone to impress if just let it grow until Friday night.

I've gone against the grain the last two times now and it's gotten a lot easier. Feels better too.

I've been shaving mine everyday for the last couple of months. I like to keep it smooth. I did take a chunk out of my scalp one time though and had to wait about a week to let it heal before shaving again. Do you guys have any trick for cuts and things like that or do you just have to wait it out.

I switched to the Dorco razors. They are the suppliers for the Dollar Shave Club. You can save even more money by going straight to http://www.dorcousa.com/ and ordering from there. I use the 4 blade one.

I started shaving about 8 weeks ago. i just use a Mach III. I still go with the grain and do it every 2-3 days. I use some Nivea aftershave and then use a face moisturizer that has spf 15 on the days I don't save. I have experienced very little irritation so far luckily.

PS I wish I did it sooner.

^^ get an Alum Block.

After shaving, rinse your scalp with the coldest water your faucet puts out.
Wet the Alum block.
Now this is the part where you just need to man up.
Rub the Alum block on your wet face/head. Do not get it in your eyes.
Try not to scream. Alum is a salt and a bloog coagulant.
Wait a few minutes in agony.
Rinse it off.
Moisturize as normal.

bruh, omg. Started losing my hair when I was 23. Fucking sucks. I have a lot of hair on the sides & back, and its VERY thin on top. I've definitely considering doing some sort of hair restoration deal, like what Brian Urlacher got. https://goo.gl/vnt8Dy

I'm not going bald, my scalp just likes to see more sun on top.

I've still got a head of thick, man-tastic hair. Sucks to be you guys.

Not really, less to fuss with. Quick 3 minutes with a razor once a week and I'm done. My beard takes more maintenance.

Started balding senior year of HS...thank you genetics. Accelerated in college, tapered off but kept going until I ended up with a lovely horseshoe hair pattern. Super thick on the sides and back, nothing up top I shave it slick 3 times a week to avoid looking like my 60 year old uncle. For those just starting - go slooooow until your scalp gets used to it. Do it at night so you don't have to rush for work. But if you hurry you'll take a chunk out of your scalp and bleed like a sonofabitch. After a while you can speed up. I really like the shaving gels with no colors or fragrance, they're the easiest on my skin.

It'd be cool to not have to put on sun screen every time I go out or wear a beanie as soon as it starts to get cold out, but going bald never really bothered me. Fuck if I'm going to spend money on cream and pills and shit that probably don't work anyway. Just own it.

I'm married to a woman who is way better looking than me (humble brag) so I guess everything works out in the end

Exactly why I started shaving it too

I've been shaving my head since 2011. I had back surgery and was not going to be able to shower for two weeks ( ). So I shaved my head.

Didn't all grow back.

I was using a safety razor for a while, but after being fed up with too many cuts, I switched to a Panasonic Wet/Dry (Model: ES LA-63S http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002N5MHLU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage).

Now I shave my head about every two or three days, dry, then shower and remove the stubble (with a little baby oil).

Finish it up with some TAOS Sandalwood after-shave balm and baby oil.

I've been using clippers on my dome for awhile, never a razor. Maybe it is my hair color but from like 10ft away you can't tell it isn't shaved, and I never have to worry about nicks or a mirror shine finish.

I actually find a razor to be easier than clippers. Way easier to not miss a spot and I'm actually faster with a razor. Easier cleanup too. I could never go back to not shaving my head. One of the best decisions I've made.
