I am writing a paper that is supposed to be written in investigative journalistic style, and I have chosen something I found while looking through crowdfunding site GoFundMe.com here: http://www.gofundme.com/HopeGirlFixtheworldQEG
It's called the QEG and the basic idea behind it just sounds impossible to me (10k watts of output for 1k watts of input?). Somehow, these people have raised nearly $40 thousand for something THAT DOESN'T EVEN WORK. I am not a physicist, but I do consider myself to be scientifically literate, which is why I find shit like this to be baffling. Anyway, I just need help with explaining the scientific reasons why this thing is bullshit.

Remember this is for a mock news article, so the language needs to be relatively plain (without dumbing it down too much or oversimplifying of course). Any help is greatly appreciated. Also if this article turns out to be good enough it might have a chance at getting published, in which case I will gladly list any contributors.

That's perfect! Exactly what I was looking for, thanks. It's funny I kept expecting all of the QEG videos on YouTube to have comments with people debating the viability of the design, but on every single video the comments are disabled! Gee I wonder why?

And yeah that is an absurd amount of money, but remember that probably isn't their only source so they've made even more than that!
