When it says "dealer inventory" what does that mean?

Basically, I looking into this vehicle that's listed on craigslist as "by owner", but when I pulled up the carfac it says "dealer inventory". Is this guy a dealer or is does carfax pick up craigslist postings these days?

The title will probably tell the tale. Either he bought it from a dealer to flip (highly unlikely) and it's titled in his name, or the dealership holds the title and he is just acting as a broker and trying to make a commission. Have you considered just asking the guy?

A lot of craigslist cars are sold by licensed dealers who just flip them even though they are listed as being sold by owner

Yep, just went to see the car, turns out he is just trying to flip the car.
