I am on the hunt for awesome, authentic New York style bagels as of late. I'm disappointed, with the amount of Northerners down here, that no one has thought to open a bagel shop. We can have 10 million crappy new BBQ places but we can't have one decent bagel shop?
If you need a business idea, here is your chance. Important a Jewish bagel baker from NYC and get on it. 5/21/2014 12:03:10 PM |

The way it was explained to me by friend Johnny Drama is that it is all about the water. Only on Fairfax can you get a decent bagel. The Jews import it from Borough Park. However, if you are looking for good pizza on Fairfax you will not find it because Jews don't make pizza. 5/21/2014 12:28:58 PM |

Manhatten Bagel in Cary off High House.
Definitely the best bagels I've had (yet) in the Triangle. Very important to note: they have NY bialys, which if you don't know what they are, they're Polish rolls that, instead of a hole in the middle, it's a depression filled with diced onions and butter and poppy seeds. They're lighter than bagels and really good toasted with butter.
I go here basically ever Saturday morning and get nova lox on a bialy. Best thing ever and it's cheaper than most places will sell you a nova lox anything--and a large portion too. 5/21/2014 2:22:23 PM |

Good suggestions, but I swear to fucking Christ, are there any good bagel places in Raleigh? Not way the fuck out in N Raleigh or some obscure strip mall in Cary?
synapse that link is broken.

Oh I've been to that place, in Cary. They were good, but not worth a 16 mile round trip for me

Brugers?
synapse try the chicken salad on the croissant, it's great. as far as sandwiches go, you can also ask them to make you a club sandwich and it's fucking enormous. I wish they were open til at least 6pm so I could drop in after work. 5/21/2014 4:50:58 PM |

Brueggers is good, until you actually have an authentic bagel up north. Then it's just mediocre. Adding injury to insult, Brueggers bagels actually cost more than the tastier (and larger) bagels you find up north. 5/21/2014 4:53:06 PM |

I'll be in NYC next weekend - definitely going to hit up Brooklyn Bagel. Don't know if you can recommend any others? You're right, the bagels up there are enough for two meals (at least for me) and the selection of creme cheese - awesome. Everything bagel with onion/chive creme cheese is my shit. 5/21/2014 4:56:48 PM |

Came here to post this. I can't verify the authenticity of an actual NYC bagel, but they are definitely the best I've ever had.5/21/2014 8:38:50 PM |

Brooklyn Bagels were good, but when living in NYC I had much better.
