If you willfully and knowingly commute an hour each way because you love living in Rocky Mount so much than you may be delusional!

At age 28, she’s proof of one Rocky Mount’s hopeful mottoes: The highway goes both ways.
“I will say that I am probably in a minority. People who grow up in smaller towns can’t wait to get out, and I loved it,” Tobias says during an interview at a downtown Raleigh cafe. “I just loved knowing my neighbors, knowing my parents’ friends and knowing people cared for me.”

I commuted to Rocky Mount from Raleigh while doing a coop. I took the housing allowance and used it on gas. Better than living in Rocky Mount ![](images/smile.gif) 6/2/2014 2:00:13 PM

Co-worker of mine lived in Rocky Mount with her parents for the first several years of her teaching career and commuted to our school in Raleigh. Then she put like $30k down on a house. I think it worked out in her favor. Plus, her parents were the cook your meals/fold your clothes type. 6/2/2014 2:27:47 PM

I used to occasionally pull a 2-hour commute from Scotland Neck to Chapel Hill. Shit was for,the birds, especially to live in Scotland Neck. Happier in an apartment with a life and friends nearby than no life and spending hours a day in a car to have my own house. 6/2/2014 8:09:17 PM

I'd chainsmoke both ways. At a certain point, I might as well pursue my dream of driving a tractor-trailer. 6/2/2014 8:17:41 PM

I too drive from outer wake county(wake forest) to rocky mount 5 or 6 days a week. It's quicker for me to get there than it would be if I had to get to downtown raleigh. No traffic is a plus and I take back roads almost all the way there. 6/3/2014 6:51:24 PM

I can understand living with your parents for a few years after college for financial reasons. No way in hell I would have done it, but I get it.
I really don't understand the appeal of having your parents continue to feed you and do your laundry when you're a functional adult, though. But maybe that stems from the fact that I'd have worked street corners before I would have moved back in with my parents. 6/4/2014 7:06:33 AM
