Only in fucking America would tap water be more expensive than a refill of Fat Juice (aka Soda).

I dunno, I'd think maybe in some arid desert country it might be more expensive

Movie theaters will charge you full price for any drink in a large cup, even tap water.

The only free one is in the tiny clear cups. How's that supposed to last a whole movie.

Charging this in a place where there are no water fountains should probably be illegal.

It's what raves have been trying to do since... forever ago. Many will confiscate your bottles at the door to start out with. And people died. Free market.

All the theaters my friends worked at kept a "cup and popcorn bag" inventory.

I.E. they had to count cups and bags at the end of every night, and they better match the number sold, or mark them as damaged/trash.

I went a movie theater once where the soda machines were down, so they were only selling bottles. I thought they were going to have a riot on their hands from refusing to give people cups with ice.

I'm pretty sure water fountains are a code requirement and have been for some time. According to this, it's 1 per 500 people. Maybe ask an architect or somebody who is tested on this stuff:

It's no different than golf courses. When I was at Eagle Ridge getting ready to play golf one time, I asked where the water fountain was. The guy at the register said they didn't have one and weren't required to by law since they had a snack stand that sold drinks.

at Paul Brown Stadium, only about 1 in 5 water fountains work. that way, it makes it easier for us to spend $5.50 on a bottle of water.

Most water fountains have some type of filter that sinks do not. So do most homes.

municipal water coming out of a faucet in a sink is completely safe to drink. it needs no filters.

[Edited on June 4, 2014 at 4:22 PM. Reason : but yes, water fountains are required.]

the nice refrigerated-type water filters have a sediment filter, but that's not really going to do anything for taste its just there to keep sediment out of the cooling tank. The sediment filter only takes large particles, it's not really that much different than what an aerator on a faucet is going to filter.

and the plain non-cooled water fountains aren't even going to have that.

so no, for all practical purposes, water fountains do not have a filter and you are getting the same water from the faucet

many homes have aftermarket filters installed, but while it's common if you are on well water, it's not found in "most" homes on city water. try flushing your hot water heater (that you are supposed to do annually anyways) and take a look at whats sitting in the bottom of it.

Water fountains gross me out.... everytime i drink from one, i notice that water hits my lips and splatters back onto the fountain. Then I think about the dozens/hundreds of people that have done the same thing since it was last washed.

That's my understanding. Maybe the fountains were really dirty or something.

It should be illegal to surcharge so much for a public utility.

I mean I don't care. I'll drink out of a sink before paying $3.50 for water.
