http://www.nbcnews.com/news/local/homeowner-shoots-man-during-altercation-lancaster-w55382859

short & sweet: guy fires gun at and assaults female, she flees to neighbor's house, guy forcefully enters past homeowner, homeowner shoots him. guy's in hospital.

but then this (guy = Grier):

"The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office says Grier is in the custody of the Lancaster City Police Department on an unrelated incident, in which Grier is accused of fatally shooting another man earlier Tuesday evening, and will be charged with attempted murder and first-degree burglary by the Sheriff's Office upon his release from the hospital. "

How is he in custody on an unrelated charge, if he's out assaulting someone else?

I guess it's like LCPD called dibs on holding the guy after he gets out of the hospital, even though the Sheriff's Office will charge him in connection with this new incident too.

[Edited on June 11, 2014 at 5:07 PM. Reason : like these incidents took place in quick succession, before Grier could be arrested for the first one]

makes sense. Ahh shit, reading comprehension - I skimmed over the PD identities, not seeing separately LCPD and the sheriffs office.
