I think Pierce Brosnan would have been, if he hadn't gotten all the shittiest movies there at the end. There's only so much you can do with "invisible car and diamond-encrusted Korean"

I loved Brosnan in goldeneye and tomorrow never dies. World is not enough was alright, and die another day was dogshit. Hard to argue with Daniel Craig though

Most actual certified movie critics would say that Craig was the best representation of the actual character, but since Connery defined the movie persona of James Bond, everyone else is at best second best. So yeah, Daniel Craig.

Yeah, it's true that "Book Bond" and "Movie Bond" are pretty different. Book Bond is actually kind of a dick, bordering on being a rapist. Movie Bond has a better sense of humor, which is one reason I liked Brosnan. He was clearly never taking himself all that seriously. The advantage of Connery is that he bridges the two. Good one-liners and a little bit of silliness but also has the 1950s misognynist racist possible rapist thing going on.

[Edited on June 15, 2014 at 9:44 AM. Reason : and yeah, Craig is the best modern interpretation of Book Bond. ]

Daniel Craig for sure. I really like the grittiness he portrays and I think he's turned the franchise around from the same old shit.

Moore is my 2nd favorite. But it probably has a lot to do with him being in some of the classics of my childhood like Live and Let Die and A View to a Kill, starring Christopher Walken

Live and Let Die came out before I was born, but it had boat jumps, voodoo, and Harlem

I'm gonna go with Craig, but it's not just because of his look/acting...it's the writing and directing wardrobe etc.

I mean every one of them were good actors except for Lazenby and could have pulled off the new "gritty" Bond. They were just victims of stupid plots, leisure suits, blow dry hair styling and in one case even a fucking clown suit.

Connery's my favorite. Lazenby was pretty great IMO - and in my favorite movie of the series - but his agent advised him against continuing (LOL) and he was apparently an ass to deal with. I liked Moore at times in the role, but it got too comical too often - For Your Eyes Only is the type of film I wish he'd made more often during his tenure. His Bond should've been closer to what he was in The Saint.

Dalton's probably my #2. Closer to Fleming's Bond and was doing what Craig is doing now, but 20 years earlier. Had MGM not had financial troubles I would've liked to see him continue in the role for much longer. I liked Brosnan in his first two, but it started to go off the rails in the 2nd half of Tomorrow Never Dies, into The World is Not Enough, and then totally in Die Another Day. Craig's been great so far - Casino Royale is my 2nd favorite film of the series, Quantum was solid, but had issues due to the writer's strike and Skyfall was very good as well. Hope he continues at least through Bond 25.

A lot of people don't like Roger Moore, but I think growing up I saw so many Roger Moore as Bond movies on TNT that Moore is natural to me as Bond.

Brosnan and Craig are both perfectly fine. I've never seen the one Bond film with Lazenby and Dalton I haven't seen as much.

^Perhaps that is why I like Moore so much. That and his interaction with Jaws, the best henchman in the series.

^^^

The Lazenby film (On her Majesty's Secret Service) had a lot of merit and is worth checking out.

Dianna Rigg (formerly Emma Peel from the Avenger's)
Telly Savalas as the bad guy (He shaved his head for the part, liked it so much he kept it. That role got him Kojack)

The scenery is stunning and the bobsled chase is one of the most memorable of the countless Bond chase scenes. No over the top stunts but a real up close sense of speed and danger.

^ Yeah, OHMSS is one of the films that stayed very close to the original Fleming novel. There's still a ton of unused Fleming material that I hope they adapt into a movie (or at least a portion of a movie) someday. The Moonraker novel is pretty much unused aside from character names, and there are large chunks of Diamonds are Forever, The Man With the Golden Gun, and You Only Live Twice that were never used either.

I like Diamonds are Forever as a stand alone film - more similar to the Roger Moore films, but always hated that due to the reaction to Lazenby at the time - and the low box office numbers - they went in such a comical direction with Diamonds when it could've, and should've, been a revenge film following OHMSS.

Yes. He and his partner, Q, travel around the world solving crimes that are essentially logic puzzles. The movies are based on a series of popular young adult novels.

I wonder if these would be relevant to my interests. I like logic puzzles. But I am not really a fan of movies subsisting solely on violence for violence's sake. Is that these?

Connery
Craig
Brosnan
Moore
Dalton

I don't really think comparing Craig to the others is fair or accurate, as the tone/style of his films isn't necessarily the same as his predecessors.

Interesting fact that a lot of fans don't know, is that Roger Moore was originally who MGM wanted for Dr. No. But he was too busy at the time with The Saint and then went with Sean Connery. The rest, as they say, is history.

My favorite (after Connery) is Daniel Craig.

But it's fair to lump all the other actors who've played the character into "the others" because The Living Daylights is basically the same movie as Moonraker? Come the fuck on with that.
