http://www.hlntv.com/article/2014/06/19/baby-dead-hot-car-cobb-county-justin-ross-harris-charged-murder?hpt=hp_t4

I can't begin to imagine how this father feels. We don't know what was going through his head that morning, but he very well could've been really stressed out.

Guy forgot to drop his kid off at daycare, was probably on autopilot and drove straight to work, forgetting his son was in the car.

Just scary and heartbreaking. Now the guy is being charged with felony murder and child abuse. That sounds harsh. What if the mom usually drops the kid off?

My daughter falls asleep on the way home from her daycare, and doesn't make a peep.

Manslaughter and child endangerment yes. Murder no.

Makes me cry. Mine is with me almost 24/7 and if I do drive somewhere without him by my heart starts racing at some point, thinking I have left him somewhere. That poor man.

It does seem unlikely that he missed it twice. But it could happen. Lots of cars have tinted windows and people rear face for a long time now. So our seat is rear facing in the center and if I didn't look in my rear view I wouldn't know he was in it unless I actively checked.

And ours is an infant seat. Convertibles have higher backs and I would assume an almost 2 year old would be in a convertible seat.

We don't know all the circumstances. Mom may usually take him to school, maybe he was stressed about something at work, maybe he was sick or tired or hungover. Doesn't excuse him but at least humanizes the situation.

like someone said, maybe he rarely drives with the child. i rarely look in the backseat and i've completely forgot that i've loaded something back there that i was supposed to drop off or take home. i'd like to give this guy the benefit of the doubt at this time. it's a tragedy either way.

I have a family friend of a friend that also had to deal with this. The word tragedy is overused nowadays. This is a real tragedy.

We have a household rule to not have a car seat in our cars unless we are taking our son somewhere. The seat is huge and obtrusive. That way hopefully I always think if seat is present = where is toddler?

I almost did this one day. I got to work and then looked in the back and saw her there...asleep.

I about cried thinking about the horror of her screaming for help as I was inside working.

Freaking awful... only a parent would know this feeling. Everyone else is just a heartless troll.

Hell a week or two ago someone stole my kids carseat out of the back of my car. Even knowing someone had rummaged through my vehicle I didnt notice the car seat missing until after I got to work. Granted he very rarely rides with me but I can see how this is at least plausible. Big difference between not noticing a seat and not remembering your child is back there though.

I have twins. I couldn't forget they were in the car if I tried. The car seats literally take up half the vehicle.

You must have some morbidly obese kids, if their car seats take up literally half your vehicle.

Two rear-facing seats claim the whole rear seating area seat. You can sit between them if you're super skinny.

I find it odd that he did not realize before the end of the day. If he takes sleeping pills or something he might be like zombie in the morning and no know wtf he is doing.

The clear solution is to ban parents. I bet if that kid was armed this never would have happened.

My wife always calls me after she drops our daughter off, and we talk about anything going on at daycare for that day. Doing that is a nice check against something like this.

maybe he would not cooperate with being interrogated so they just hit him with the worst thing he might be guilty of

The article says he fucking freaked when he found out what happened.

^I can understand the complete freakout, you know killing your toddler and all.

I can sorta understand the charges (for the time being) even if it was completely accidental.

I don't understand the lack of bail.

my wife and I discussed this and both teared up last night (~ i know)... i can't imagine the guilt and suffering that the parents go through when something like this happens. I've definitely gone into the driving daze and drove my normal route to work when i was actually going somewhere else. I can't say that i've ever come even close to forgetting a kid, but then again my wife is the one who drops them off... i pick them up. (and no, i've never forgotten to pick them up)

I do the pickup and my wife does the dropoff as well. I'm pretty routine oriented until I get to work - sometimes, if I mean to go out of my way, like to get gas, I will find myself on autopilot and just drive to work forgetting the gas.

Maybe the guy did that.

"Well this actually happened yesterday and I still haven't seen her since. Yesterday I got off of work about 3 hours early and offered to pick my son up from my mother in laws for the wife. She was thrilled not to have to worry about that after work. Soon after I picked him up I devised a devious plan that I can only assume is sending me straight to Satan himself. Shortly before she got home I set the plan in motion. I laid our son down for a nap and headed to the living room. I grabbed a beer and put on a game of Dead Rising. As soon as she opened the door she was asking where her baby was. Excited to be home early and in a great mood. The moment she said , "where is our baby", I dropped my beer and hollered "Oh my god in the car! !!". I threw off my headset and ran for the door. Earlier I had put a baby doll in his car seat. Well I ran outside. She was right behind me screaming What's happening. As soon as I got to the door of the car, she started balling and saying oh no no no. I reached in the car and grabbed the baby doll and threw it at her laughing. Needless to say she didn't find it funny at allllll. After a broken Xbox and a kick to the balls I ended up staying at the motel 6. Hopefully she'll talk to me today."

you sure have taken a turn for the trollish, though, over the past few weeks. I only wish you'd try to be more amusing about it. because a lot of your recent aggression has just been raw animosity, devoid of wit; and I know you've got plenty of humor in you, if you'd only let it shine through.

If it were simply an accident, I would feel bad for the father knowing that he would be punished in his own mental hell for the rest of his life. If it was not accidental as this story implies, then this bastard is some special kind of sick.

I keep my bag in the backseat whether little man is in my car or not. Did the same with his sisters. Hard to imagine it happening, but I don't think everyone of these people is a monster.

Any time I get in my car in the summer, and particularly when putting kids in the car, I get a sick feeling at the the briefest thought of this happening. Make it a point to notice the cars around you in the parking lot. One nosey coworker could have saved that child's life.
