seeds = the latest trendy superfood

Anyone tried them? What do you do with them?

begonias turned me on to overnight oats with chia seeds. They're pretty good.

if by latest you mean "for the last 5 years", then you are right.

http://www.nuts.com has the cheapest chia seeds i found.

lots of recipes involve making chia gel, and then using it in different foods such as smoothies, puddings, porridge, etc.

put some in coconut milk and leave for half an hour... yum.

google "chia pudding" for tons of recipes.

but mostly, i just sprinkle them on my porridge and inside sandwiches for the health benefits.

My girlfriend made jelly with chia seeds, honey, and raspberries. Shit's amazing. And all my life I thought chia seeds were only for chia pets. Fml.

2 cups berries
1 cup water
1/4 cup chia seeds
1/4 cup honey

All in a pot, bring to boil and reduce heat to maintain a steady bubble. Stir constantly until it is reduced and thickened. 20 mins-half hr depending on desired thickness.

Lactation cookies just have ingredients in them that help with lactation in one way or another. Steel cut oats to fill you up, flax or chia seeds for some reason, and brewers yeast. Or you could just drink a guiness.

^ Go back to Sam's Club and buy some pomegranate juice.

- Put 3/6/9 tablespoons of chia seeds in a big Nalgene bottle or some other jug.
- Add a cup of water for every 3 tablespoons of chia seeds and shake it up.
- Put it in the fridge for at least 18 hours.

The chia seeds will soak up the water and turn into a gelatinous substance. Mix 50/50 chia seed water with pomegranate juice and enjoy. It's kinda like jello shots minus the alcohol. Bonus points if you add alcohol.

Of course. Pomegranate is just a good choice for beginners because it is such an overpowering flavor that it really doesn't suffer from being diluted in half.

^ No problem. It takes about 12-18 hours for the seeds to soak up all the water. An extra shaking half way through doesn't hurt. I've kept it in that state in the fridge for up to about 2 weeks myself with no issues; using it as needed at a rate of 2-6 oz per drink until it was gone.

^^ I know people use it as an egg substitute in pretty much any recipe that calls for eggs, but I've never tried it that way. I think you have to grind it in a coffee grinder first. I prefer just to crack an egg.

So to answer about the lactation cookie nonsense

Chia and Flax seeds add healthy fats and proteins.
Brewer's yeast contains iron and protein and is a supposed galactagogue.
And steel cut oats have iron and help you feel full.

Basically lactation cookies are cookies with healthy ingredients that a lactating mom needs and my recipe calls for less sugar as well. You need to eat extra calories and protein when making milk and you need certain minerals. The idea of a galactagogue is slightly controversial, but the health benefits of the other ingredients are known. I also drink lots of Gatorade and coconut water and regular water.

doesn't mater if it is from concentrate or not, as fresh pom juice is also high in sugar. as long as it says "100% juice", they dilute the concentrate down to the naturally occurring ratios.

Quote :

so what exactly did you get, because you implied that you got pom juice, but obviously you did not get any juice if it has 0 sugar.
