I don't do both together, so it is always a tough decision for me in the evenings. Should I enjoy a Red Oak, or a cup of coffee. I usually end up going with the coffee.

I love me a good coffee stout.

And I always have a big cup of coffee in the middle of a long day of drinking.

^´me too, bra.

I like to eat chocolate a lot too in the middle of a long day drinking. But I hear that it's kind of a girly thing to be doing.

I need some help figuring this out. The St. Andrews Ale has a very coffee-ish flavor to it, but there are no actual coffee beans in the composition of the ingredients. So, is the coffee taste originating from how it is brewed?

Very delicious regardless. Scottish and English Ales are highly underrated in my opinion.

man bunch a haters tonight.

Never had much experience with brewing beer. But, since the coffee bean is caramelized, I would assume that there is some roasting involved for the coffee flavored beers. But, I was just a little amazed at how something with no coffee in it can taste so much like coffee, and I figured that a fellow beer guy here could elucidate that a bit more.

Also, I kind of appreciate the diatribe, because it is very annoying how folks always associate chemistry with cooking and food. It's all people care to talk about when they find out that you are a chemist.

I need to get into beer brewing though. As much as I like German beer, there is only Pilsner and Weizen beer for the most part. Other than my british pub, I have found no IPAs or Porters or Stouts.

Is this the right thread to ask where I should start?

Try cold-brewing your own coffee and adding it to a good stout.

^ i cold-brewed and added it to my last porter

it was good, though there seemed to be a "metallic" taste to the beer after bottling (it was there when i bottled)...i don't know if i need to let it age longer or what

I found my new favorite beer Victory Storm King.

It gives me the best of both worlds of the tastes that I love - a robust stout and a very hoppy IPA.

10/10

It dethroned Green Man Porter and Great Lakes Edmund Fritzgerald and the new #1.

Good job Victory will def cop again.
