Quote : | "Brace yourselves for more laughs! There will be a sequel to 2001's beloved comedy Super Troopers, and Us Weekly exclusively spoke to Steve Lemme, one of the film's stars and a member of Broken Lizard, for more scoop on the movie.
"You know, it was a combination of having to settle some of the legal disputes about making a sequel, while also negotiating terms for it," Lemme told Us of what took so long. "The fans have been asking for it for a while, but we were finally able to package everything together. Fox is going to distribute the film, but we needed to raise the money for it, with a minimum budget of $27 million, which we've just about raised. There may be a Kickstarter launched to raise the last little bit."
Without revealing the plot of Super Troopers 2, Lemme, 45, added: "I think it's one of the more unique and interesting stories I've seen in awhile. But the movie picks up pretty much where we left off in the first one. It's a few years later. The biggest difficulty was trying to top that opening scene, which so many people have complimented us on. I think we've done it."
The first movie, which starred the Broken Lizard comedy group -- Lemme, Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Erik Stolhanske, and Paul Soter -- followed the hilarious antics of five Vermont state troopers, patrolling near the border of Canada.
Lemme revealed to Us that their infamous 'staches will be part of the new flick. "Everybody who had a mustache in the first one will grow it back," said Lemme. "Now the guys who didn't grow mustaches for the first one want to have a mustache. We're making them earn it, not sure how we'll haze them, but they better be prepared."
Lemme also said the group plans to start filming at the beginning of 2015, with pre-production taking place in November." |

while I'll 100% see this the second it comes out ...
it's a little fucking disingenuous for them to say that the movie "can't" be done unless we raise 2mil ... each of those guys could drop two mil on this movie alone, let alone needing a campaign .... now they can say they WANT us to fund-raise it, sure, but they don't fucking need it. 3/24/2015 7:50:41 PM |

Dropping $2 mil on a movie yourselves is one thing, but having other people do it proves there's a market.
It would be a little foolish for them to do it themselves, unless the purpose was to fulfill a dying wish for someone. 3/24/2015 8:03:06 PM |

Not really. None of their movies have been box office juggernauts, as a matter of fact I think Slammin Salmon might have been straight to video (I don't remember seeing anything about it till I saw it On Demand). All of their movies are highly entertaining though. I can see how they might have trouble getting studios to cough up money for this.3/25/2015 8:38:09 AM |

alllll right fair enough, only Jay Chandrasekhar, seems to have been intelligent with his money and has a net worth of 9mill.
I guess it was a little much to assume they'd been responsible with money and after 2 pretty popular movies ( that grossed over 40million dollars between them) had 400k each lying around to make even more money :x silly me. "each of these guys" was obviously completely wrong, so I take that back
i will say i'd think the "proving their is a market" angle, seems way more plausible than they don't have the money (although again it seems the blew most of their money as a collective and thus don't.)
^23 million gross for a movie that cost 3 million seems like pretty fucking solid return on investment.

What I don't understand is why there wouldn't be any film studios out there that think this is a good idea. It's guaranteed to, at the very least, break even.

I really like the idea of independently funded movies. The less studio involvement the more money that can actually go to the people who do things like write the script and act in the movie.
One of the truly great things about the internet is that it is really starting to remove the middle man in a lot of ways. Content creators can go straight to the audience instead of having to go through networks or studios that mangle their works and claim most of the profits. I'm all for video on demand and putting stuff up on Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. vs. the way things have traditionally been marketed and distributed.
Unless they substantially change their current business model a lot of studios will be gone in the next decade. 3/26/2015 6:53:39 AM |

I see nothing wrong with this. Its not like they're putting a gun to your head and saying, "Pay us money or we'll kill you." There are so many people that liked the first one paying in that the people that DID pay in, prolly didn't have to pay that much for them to reach their goal quickly. If this movie is anywhere near as entertaining as the first one, I would have no problems with pitching in a couple bucks for it to be made and then paying 1.50 when its released on Redbox to watch it.3/26/2015 8:22:15 AM |

Awesome:
Quote : | "We formed a partnership with the movie ticket service Fandango. So now, for the first time ever, a fan can buy a package called, “The Fandango Bango” (priced at $35) and get a movie ticket to Super Troopers 2, which they can use at their local theater. They’ll also get a digital script, which we’ve annotated with hand-written jokes, and a shout out on Twitter. Is that worth $35? In the first few days of the campaign, over 2000 fans have signed on to buy tickets, so it appears fans are feeling good about our solution. Yes, I’m aware that the average movie ticket is $12 dollars, but we’re using the markup to make the film. That’s how crowdfunding works." |

I thought that part was pretty disingenuous, especially given how the rest of the article talked about being able to invest in movies in the future.
There are plenty of crowdfunding campaigns that have succeeded by having a pledge level to receive the album/game/gadget/whatever that is roughly similar to what it would be priced at after release, then (obviously) having some of the higher dollar packages where you get to hang out with the band or get memorabilia or whatever. To imply that people that want to support this movie should be paying a $20+ premium on an already pricey movie ticket and "that’s how crowdfunding works" is ridiculous. Let people pay you $12-15 in advance and use that money to make the movie (in addition to the high dollar pledges for more exclusive stuff), just like a band does when people give them $12-15 to get a copy of an album that hasn't been recorded yet. 4/1/2015 12:35:23 AM |
