I looked around and all I could find was a Sensia thread from about 6 years ago.

Who here has a Keurig? I've always kinda wanted one, but didn't want to spend the money for it, but then got one as a gift from work. I find it pretty convenient if I want one cup of coffee, but I'm a marathon coffee drinker, so I don't know if this is going to be for me.

It is obviously more expensive than regular coffee, but I was thinking about getting that filter in which you can put your own coffee, but then I read where these things are made for espresso type grounds, so my old old Folgers won't work.

Any thoughts? How do you like yours?

I have one at my office and I barely use it anymore. It gets "dirtier" than you think it would and it's a pain in the ass to clean out (more difficult for me because I have to walk a ways to a sink to clean it out).

I'm not a coffee purist, but I think it tastes like crap. I used the filter and my own grinds (shitty Folgers), and that was worse than the cups.

I'm starting to just bring an extra mug to the office (after my morning cup at the house) or just pay $2 at the local doughnut shop that is across the street for a large cup of really good coffee.

the new Keurig 2.0's don't work with the old k-cups or the filter that you can use your own grounds in. yeah....they added authentication to coffee. say goodbye to open source coffee.

Its cheaper than going to Starbucks, but more than brewing coffee in a regular pot.


Depending on which model you have will depend how reliable it is. The one I have keeps water in the reservoir at all times. I don't ever turn it off because something about water sitting in there at room temp seems disgusting to me. So it probably is wasting electricity.

Meh, I brew my coffee using a coffee-maker...and it tastes good

I guess it might be convenient to insta-brew, but I can usually find shit to do in the 2 minutes it takes my Mr. Coffee to produce my coffee.

It's just more unnecessary technological frills, for me.

1. Grind your coffee - 15 secs
2. Wash the filter - 10 seconds
3. Put the coffee in the filter, then put the filter in the Mr Coffee and hit brew - 5 secs
4. Brew - 2 mins

In the two minutes this takes you can get dressed, walk the dog, brush your teeth, take a shower, have a quickie. What is so hard about this?

Right now I make espresso shots in the morning. Same thing but it takes like 15 seconds to get my shot.

I have a keurig platinum and it has lasted two years. Used mainly for company. I do have chunks of time where I decide I need coffee though. Not a coffee snob at all. It just needs to be hot and caffeinated.

I don't let it sit full of water. If I don't use it for a couple days I empty it. And I regularly run white vinegar through it.

I've been using regular ground coffee in the refillable k-cups in my Keurig.

It's definitely "watered down". I ordered a coffee grinder this morning so I can grind it all to an espresso ground consistency...hopefully that will make it a little stronger.

Keurig figured out how to get people to pay $2 for a cup of coffee at home.

That being said, we have one at the office because everyone prefers something different, and for our small office, we end up spending a little bit less than the coffee service we had previously.

^this. Before our Keurig it would be a race to whoever could get to the breakroom first to make their desired strength of coffee. If it was our Office Manager it would be light roast, week flavored Folgers. If it was me it was a medium to dark roast. The Keurig lets everyone have their own choice. It's not the best cup of coffee but i'm not usually able to sip and savor it like I can when I'm at my local coffee shop.

If you are paying $2 for a cup of Keurig coffee, you are doing it wrong. Even at Harris Teeter you can get $10 Peets/Newmans/Etc k cups for $8.99 most of the time.

At my previous job we had a coffee taste test and chose 3 to have ready at all times in large containers. I still prefer to make my own coffee than use the Keurig here. If I absolutely have to then the Dunkin Donuts dark KCup isn't straight awful.

One time I watched in horror as this chick put in a kcup and set it on the largest cup size so it was mostly water, then she added several pumpkin creamers and Splenda to it. Ew.

I use my own grounds in the basket/adapter thingy. I have always bought ground coffee, but i'm thinking about getting a grinder and going whole bean.

I do keep a box or two of kcups on hand if i'm in a hurry or for guests. I will only buy them though if they are on sale somewhere.

it's tough to tell if a bad cup of coffee is from the coffee itself or how the keurig makes it. it seems the only bad coffee I've had from the machine was due to bad coffee.

Bought one for father in law since he drank instant coffee anyway. He really seems to like it.

Personally I think it's an affront to God, and if I start a religion then my first law will be that use of a Keurig is be punishable by death.

On another note I buy the most expensive normal coffee you can buy and it's cheaper than Keurig on the cup basis.

I'm a one-cup-a-day coffee drinker. I never pay more than $0.50/cup for k-cups. I won the Keurig as a door prize at a work Christmas party; I probably would have never bought one otherwise.

I occasionally use regular coffee in the reusable filter.


When I just want hot water for tea or hot cocoa, I use a different reusable filter.


The convenience factor is nice for someone who doesn't drink a lot of coffee or who doesn't want really strong coffee.

Well our 3-4 month old K45 model stopped working this morning right in time for coffee (had to break out the french press). Got it as a Christmas present after the last one started leaking around the base of the reservoir after about two years of use. It wasn't draining water from the reservoir even though the machine was running and the back of the unit was warm. I can report their customer service responded immediately to my email and a new replacement unit has already been shipped.

Anyone else have experience with this issue? Customer service just gave me the "stick a paper clip into the needle..." advice which I had already done. I hate to throw out a relatively new unit if there's an easy fix.

Still thinking of using mine for the office...but haven't touched it in about 6 months. For the past year I've been using a re-fillable cup, so I haven't bought regular cups in a while.

Keurigs are wasteful to the environment.
Further, they feel overly glossy and gimmicky with the seemingly excessive steps to lock and load the cartridge into the chamber as if we are preparing to chamber a fuel rod.
I wasn't willing to lock myself into a Keurig and fall victim to the price gouging of the cartridges, but my boss has one at the office, and the only part of the whole ensemble that ever got my attention was

C'mon, dude. you can't swing a dead cat in a grocery store or box-mart without finding a shelf packed with a variety of k-cups, and yes, they fit all the old models. It's the newest models that don't have much of a market showing in common stores (units with the carafes)
