Are you under the impression they're going to stay with the Adnan Syed case in Season 2?

That logic is fucked.

Seems to me that the producers of Serial really wanted to present a compelling argument for Adnan's innocence. And they did that in a biased manner, like the interview with the prosecutor talks about. It made for entertaining listening, but overall it probably was not a complete, unbiased overview of the case.

I'm amazed at how The Intercept is willing to accept everything the prosecutor says. The opening paragraphs sound like the writer has some vendetta against the show.

Quote :
"The most troubling part of “Serial” is Koenig’s underwhelming efforts to speak with Urick, the state’s lead prosecutor. He told us that she only emailed him on Dec. 12, less than a week before the podcast concluded, to ask about an allegation that he had badgered a witness against Syed for not making the defendant look “creepy” enough. That charge was aired on the show. (Urick vociferously denies it.)"

They basically take the prosecutor's word that SK never reached out to him.

after the series and reading Jay / the Prosecutor's testimony, I'm starting to really dislike Koenig.

I'm amazed at how so many listeners are willing to accept everything SK and the convicted murderer say. The opening minutes of the very first episode sound like SK has an agenda and some vendetta against the judicial system.

^^I forgot I had mentioned it, but reading the new stuff definitely solidified it. She went from just being kind of uppity and annoying (like most NPR types) to looking like she's actually doing something very wrong and invasive.

I'll probably read what others say about season 2 and decide if I want to listen at that point, depends on the story I guess.

^^I think most listeners are skeptical of everything Adnan says. The first few paragraphs of that Intercept article reads like SK pissed in their corn flakes or something.

The articles on The Intercept (which I guess is now a thing?) are interesting, but I don't really see them having any impact on reasonable doubt in the case. He also hand-waves away the inconsistences of Jay's stories with "People can very seldom tell the same story the same way twice. If they did, I’d be very suspicious of it because that would look like it was rehearsed."

A part of me also wonders if, and how much, The Intercept paid for the interviews.

Not sure how I feel about this follow up podcast. With Serial, biased or not, at least you had an outside perspective looking in. One of the joys after all was the discovery process. However, this follow up is being produced by his lawyers and family, people who will definitely have an opinion, and for me at least, it feels like a pure propaganda piece.

Yeah I really have no desire to listen to any more about this case. And I enjoyed the Serial podcast - but I just don't really care that much about this case

Quote :
"After the NPR podcast Serial became a massive breakout hit, everyone wondered what story it would tackle next. Now we have an answer.

The Hollywood Reporter says it has confirmed previous reports that Serial season two will focus on Bowe Bergdahl, the American army sergeant accused of desertion in Afghanistan. Bergdahl was subsequently captured and imprisoned by the Taliban, and finally released in a prisoner exchange.

Serial host Sarah Koenig and show producers were spotted at a recent hearing to determine if Bergdahl will face a court martial for his actions in Afghanistan. The circumstances that led to Bergdahl’s initial disappearance are the subject of much debate and warring narratives, so this seems like an ideal Serial investigation.

Serial’s first season launched a million armchair detectives (I still think Adnan totally did it) and continues to have an impact on the subjects’ daily lives. The Bergdahl case will inject global politics into the podcast, and concern an unfolding case rather than a cold one. Will you be listening?"

Listened to the first episode. I could be wrong, but already I feel like it's going to be another long season of Koenig being infinitely receptive to a charismatic, but clearly bullshit story.

Maybe Season 3 should be about how Jodi Arias was wrongfully convicted. At least then we can return to sympathizing with someone who only got one person killed.

Also the new theme sucks.

I watched a little bit of an episode Sunday. I wonder how different it is than the podcast overall. It was cool putting faces to names though.

https://www.npr.org/2022/10/11/1127986399/prosecutors-drop-charges-against-adnan-syed-the-subject-of-serial-podcast

Quote :
"Prosecutors in Baltimore have dropped charges against Adnan Syed, the man who was released from prison last month after having served 22 years for the murder of Hae Min Lee, his former girlfriend. Lee's death and Syed's conviction were the subject of the hit podcast Serial.

In a press conference Tuesday afternoon, the state's attorney for Baltimore, Marilyn Mosby, said that recently tested DNA completely exculpated Syed from the crime: "His DNA was excluded," Mosby said. She declined to say if any other known suspects may be implicated in the recent DNA testing, saying that the investigation is ongoing.
...
In a motion filed last month, the office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City stated that a year-long investigation had revealed new information about two potential other suspects in Lee's murder. The names of those suspects were not made public in that motion, as the investigation was still ongoing. Prosecutors noted in last month's filing that at least one of those suspects was not disclosed to Syed's attorney at the time of his trial."
