Sony hack.

Shocking.

Anyway, my question is what course of action would the U.S. possibly take? I mean, besides making fun of Kim Jun-Un's fucked up haircut?

We should probably turn off their internet.

I'm sad Sony canceled the movie. Just reinforcing the behavior, imo.

I am looking forward to the Tyler Perry reboot "Kim Jong-Un's Family Re-Union."

Maybe that would be less offensive to NK.

Sony should just post the movie online for free,PPV,DVD, something. North Korea should not get their way.

it is the -Un family Re-Un-ion

that is kind of what I was going for.

I mean, its just a stupid movie. Is anyone's life really going to be effected by this?

Some folks on twitter are acting like it's the end of American freedom and civilization.

As soon as you think about where Sony is headquartered, you realize this type of cowardice is normal.

Cowardice on Sony's part. Thanks, you let the terrorist state win. The hack was impressive but I highly doubt we would have seen physical attacks on theaters or moviegoers.

(Though had it been released, assassinations of Sony execs would have been a very real possibility. So I suppose there's that.)

Had Sony premiered the movie, and there was an attack, do you think people would blame Sony for not mitigating risk of danger?

Honest question... Not arguing one way or another

sony didn't cancel the movie because of north korea or any other threats. they canceled the movie because theater chains came out and said they weren't going to show it because of possible threats.

why is this being spun in another way?

""Sony Pictures has no further release plans" for "The Interview," a company spokesperson tells CNN's Brian Stelter, discouraging speculation that it might release the movie digitally.

I gather that the movie execs and the actors, and their families, etc. were extensively researched and then personally threatened

I also predict that Pascal will no longer be chairwoman due to her handling of this matter. As Chairwoman she bore responsibility to adequately protect against something like this.

If the film never hits the box office then there will be no profits, and of course all money spent in making the film will be a complete and total loss to the company. Reports are that the movie cost $44 mil to make, total loss.

Really disappointed in the major movie chains AND Sony.

Way to let the terrorists win guys. You gave them exactly what they wanted.

Sony should troll the shit out of NK and just post the whole movie online for free for anyone who wants to watch it. Even pay to have it subtitled in every language on earth so everyone can understand it..

But seriously.... for fucks sake, way to let the terrorists win

A Steve Carrell movie based in North Korea has also been scrapped before it even got off the ground, primarily over fears of a similar attack on Fox, who would have been distributing that film

Anyone else think this is just a viral marketing campaign????

It was a probably a shit movie, everyone working on it knew it, and they needed a way to get people into theater seats. When they release this in a few weeks and every american does their patriotic duty to go see it, Sony will be all $$N. Korea $$$AMERICA

Probably b/c if that were actually the case then Sony could just release it straight to BluRay and DVD. Thing is, they said they're not going to do that.

tl;dr summary is in addition to movies being stolen and released, confidential emails personal information of employees, release plans, etc... were stolen.
The personal information of employees was also used as a threat if Sony continued down the path of 'not behaving'.

Hmmm maybe it will "accidentally" get leaked online or something. Although it would be kind of funny if they just went through a bunch of edits and released it in a few months with all references to North Korea replaced with something like "Korth Norea"

I just want to know why Sony thought it was a good idea to name a real "leader" as an assasination target in a movie meant for entertainment.

I mean... How would America react if another country make a comedy about killing Obama? Not a black president stand-in, but actually Obama. I doubt we would take that very well...

I don't remember NK or Kim Jong Il raising any stink about the release of Team America, and I"m pretty sure that trashed the leader much harder than this new movie will. Maybe they didn't know about it? Or didn't have the hacking capability at that time?

Oh, ok... So in a country where this post alone would set off a red flag somewhere in the government, or where people are detained and questioned for making negative statements about our government or certain leaders, ... it would be perfectly fine for another country to seemingly threaten our president.

OK, if you say so.

I think lots of countries make serious films about killing Obama, let alone comedies. Regardless, this just shows how much of a pissy man-child Un really is. At least Il just looked the other way for Team America. It's a Seth Rogen movie, not a propaganda film. While I don't feel any real sense of loss about not being able to see this movie, I don't think Sony should have pulled the film. It sets a bad president.

jesus christ, fucking of course we would not react anything near this if someone made a movie that showed a fictional Obama being killed. this shouldn't even need to be stated, the thought that we (or the government) would respond in a remotely similar way is ridiculous.

how can anyone possible know this? either they could simply not be a retarded idiot, or they could realize that movies have already been made showing fictional assassinations of real presidents and politicians and we didn't hack any companies in response or consider it an act of war.

This is just the first example that comes to mind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_a_President_(2006_film)
what was the response to this? a few politicians saying that it was distasteful, no response from the white house, 2 theater chains refusing to show it but still being shown in plenty of places (I think the US was still the largest market for the film), a few outlets refusing to advertise, that's it. no one was hacked, it didn't cause an international incident, there were no threats made, the response wasn't remotely similar.

however it is noted that the Canadians who were responsible for this film get the deep dive gauntlet-style latex gloves taken out for the examination each time they try to fly anywhere

I don't like or in any way support or condone the actions of North Korea. But I think it's in extremely poor taste to create a comedy about the death of a real person.

Sony just seems like a shit stirrer.
