Turned just in time to see a 747 crash on takeoff at Bagram. I was on the flight line and had an un-obstructed view of the tragedy. There is a YouTube video of it, and I was talking to the guy in the vid minuets before.

can't think of an all-time, but I did get a front row view of a SUV running a red and getting clipped by a corvette a couple sundays back. SUV did a mid-air 180 and hit the car in front of me at the light

I got dumped into a real shitty part of Austin once by an apartment locater. The third month that I was there, I was coming home from a rather long night (it was close to 3 AM, FML grad school was a bitch), and remembered that I had to take some trash out. So, I go inside, get my trash, and then as I come out I see a group of 3 or 4 hooded individuals running across the street about 25 feet in front of me, open fire on a car that had just parked, and then keep going.


It turned out to be an ongoing case with gang crime, and there was an undercover officer living there in the apartment complex to investigate it.

Needless to say, that was my last night there. The fuckers never gave me my deposit back either.

Driving north from New Bern and the approaching car in front of us lost control and ran off the road. Only fields on that side but it was probably down about 8' from the road. They flipped a couple times and ended up on the roof. We pulled over and I thought for sure it would be some bad shit. Thankfully the worst thing was one guy bruised his shoulder or something, but otherwise all 4 kids in the car walked away unscathed.

- watched a man jump from the top of the Mt. Hope Bridge in Bristol Rhode Island to his death on the road below. It's a cable bridge much like the Golden Gate or George Washington. I was 6.

- a tractor trailer hit a deer on I-40 near Nashville, TN. It knocked the deer into the air about 25-30 ft and it landed on a sedan and obliterated it.

Saw a kid roll his shit on 264 because he was texting, veered off the road, then jerked the shit out of the wheel. It was awesome. He was doing 75+. Out of everyone that stopped I was the only one that wasn't freaking out and actually called 911 2-3 people actually tried to help the guy. The rest (no less than 10 people. it was a fuckin' freak show) were just standing around being weirdos and getting in the way.

He got out of the car and was walking/talking just fine. Yay for safety of modern cars, huh?

Saw a car doing 80-90 blow a tire and spin across the median, up onto the other side of the road, and back into the median. They were lucky as hell no one was coming the other way. We get out and run up to them and it was two younger people and they looked like they had just seen their lives flash before their eyes but they were fine.

Another time going to class I saw a deer run out of the woods on a dead sprint in front of a car doing about 50-60, that sonofabitch went flying through the air.

^^^that reminded me of the time I was driving on 95S heading to Raleigh from Norfolk. traffic was stacked, but moving around 50-60 MPH or so. all of a sudden, some jackass in a cougar or some POS like that decides he's going to pass in the breakdown lane to make up a few car lengths. well, bad luck for him, because right when he's passing me, the lane turned to grass. needless to say, he lost control of the car. he managed to go across three lanes, do a 180 in a over-correction, and dart back across before going ass-end into a barrier. I pulled over along with some military trucks and called 911. but dude fled the scene. he must have come within a hair's breadth for the front end of a semi or two as well as a deuce and a half. probably shoulda met his maker.

In grad school:

I saw people catch on fire right in front of me on multiple different occasions.

A buddy of mine was doing a sealed tube experiment that was set up improperly and exploded about 2 feet away from me. If it weren't for a blast shield that he had in front of it, I'd surely be dead right now.

My wife and I were out at club when somebody walked in with a gun, shot and killed a dude that was dancing, and then just walked out like nothing happened.

In Europe:

During the time when terrorists were frequently stealing large vehicles and running over people, somebody attempted this about two blocks away from a park where I was at with my son. Within minutes, there were cops with M4s (?) patrolling the area and instructing people to get in doors. I have never seen or felt a panic like that before. Everybody reacted like it was a coordinated attack and I, with my son on my shoulder, just ran inside the first open door that we could fine.

Fully-armed riot police about 10-15 feet in front of me, with protestors baiting them with insults right behind me.

So I was essentially sandwiched between them, along with many other onlookers and reporters (but we were on the sides, so as not to be right in the middle of the standoff). The riot police charged a couple of times, and I kept filming while walking backwards. Nothing happened this time round, but there were violent encounters with Molotov cocktails and running battles between protestors and police a couple of miles away.

(Not by accident, but by choice. This was a couple of months ago.)

After the protest ended, I saw tons of spent cartridges/bullets of various types littered all over the main road. Tear gas canisters, bean bag rounds, smoke bombs, etc.

A month ago I again had the chance to observe a protest up close like that after work, but I was too tired after work, so I went home.

I can pretty much do the same every weekend if I want.

People were walking by basically ignoring him. A security guard eventually came and shooed him away. He didn't seem aware of what was going on around him whatsoever...
