Located in Statesville, NC - fun trivia, the stainless tubing is sourced from Statesville as well! (part of the reason for their move from NY to NC)

You would have to come up to Michigan...

Exhaust manifold design and development at the OEM level is way different than what you are seeing at about 3 minutes in the video. You'd probably find it more gratifying doing it that way, rather than going through layers of 1D simulation, engine dyno testing with all sorts of combustion analysis and packaging/emissions constraints, design phase deadlines and wrangling with suppliers.

I'll be joining their engineering/design department - sharing task load for header and fixture design for production kits as well as the custom stuff.

As arghx said, it's nothing like the OEM....also why I chose this career path.


After 7 years of career development at my previous employer, I was fed up with the position I had gotten into. I was hired straight out of college to work under a PE using SolidWorks, but after a year he left and I was thrust into being the department manager and the engineer. After a few slow (thankfully because of the market) and shaky years learning to be a manager, I began to take on internal project management as well. The pay continued to increase relative to increase in responsibility, but toward the end it was just too much and nobody else really cared to share the workload. Finally, back in early February, I realized I didn't want that shit anymore and resigned. Found out through adam8778 that Kooks was looking for an engineering hire and went for it. This, by far, is the most exciting career prospect I've ever considered and hopefully will be as fulfilling as I've dreamed it would be.

Wow, that Kooks job sounds like a sweet gig!


Working for an OEM doesn't have to be bad. Source: I'm an engineer for an OEM in High Point NC. We build school/transit buses, and everything is practically "custom" because we have to comply with federal specs for both US and Canada, plus individual state/province specs, all on top of the oddball options and features our customers request. The size of our options list is mindboggling, but it keeps the job interesting. I always have a handful of projects to work on, and I'm rarely stuck working on a single subsystem.
