basically this

You can find similar tents in the middle of the cloverleafs at Chapel Hill Rd/40, Cary Town Blvd/40, there was one back in the woods on Dix property if you keep going straight across Centennial Pkwy from Oval Dr, there is another one on Dix property if you go down the bigass hill behind the soccer fields towards Western, there are a few in the woods between Aerial Center Pkwy and Northgate Ct by 40, there are a few off Page Rd near Arringdon Park Dr....

There are a shit ton of homeless people living in some form of tent in the woods in this area. Unfortunately, they are not very hard to find.

They should probably hide a little better.

Also someone show some evidence that mental healthcare in America causes people to be homeless. Lack of education, piss poor money management etc lead to homelessness.

I, too, think there is more at play here than the state of mental healthcare in this country

Some people choose to be drug/alcohol addicts over working for the man and having an apartment I guess

20-25% of homeless people are nuts, according to the National Coalition for the Homeless.
http://www.nationalhomeless.org/factsheets/Mental_Illness.pdf

The same organization -- and remember, these are people who would rather the homeless not all look drunk and crazy -- admits that around 40% are alkies and 26% are addicted to other drugs.
http://www.nationalhomeless.org/factsheets/addiction.pdf

Among the long-term homeless, perhaps more than 60% are looney toons and 80% addicted to something.

See, it turns out that you can be dumber than a bag of hammers and still not be homeless. There are charities. There is public housing. There is welfare. There are food stamps. There is unemployment. There are, in short, all kinds of ways to put a roof over your head. Not a great roof, but a roof. And even profoundly ignorant people are pretty quick on the uptake when it comes to figuring out how to get free shit from the government, even if that free shit is just a spot in the projects.

Crazy people, though, aren't trying avail themselves of the advantages of the modern American welfare state (or, if you prefer, to bleed hardworking Americans dry). They're busy putting tin foil on their heads or fighting imaginary monsters in front of the Food Lion on Western.

All you have to do is talk to some homeless people and you'll realize that a lot of them have something mentally broken.

Blackjesus is the most conspicuous troll on this site.

But if you don't think substance related addictive disorders are in the realm of mental health please take that up with the DSM

I imagine it's slightly worse than living in a tent down by the Harris Teeter

See this person isnt the same as what i suspect lives in what used to be like the old homeless camps. i remember them too. I'm shocked the city would let the person pitch a tent there.

Another person lives in a tent that is very well hidden behind Crabtree Valley on the green way trail too. Not anywhere as "look at me" like the gorman/avent person

When choosing which coalition to support, it should be noted that the National Coalition for the Homies is usually a much more jovial lot than the National Coalition for the Homeless.

^^ Is pitching a tent in public indecent exposure?
