Does anybody take Dilantin, or has taken Dilantin?
What did you take it for, and did it work?
I am specifically interested in taking it for ADD and similar conditions.
http://www.whitakerwellness.com/2015/01/back-daystill-true-today-dilantin
After reading that, it seems like it is a wonder drug - makes you a mental super human, no side effect. Unfortunately, for whatever reasons, it has been pigeonholed for seizures and that's what it is prescribed for today, by most doctors who prescribe it.
Would love to get my hands on it! 4/6/2015 3:04:46 PM |

1) I don't know the movie Limitless, but seems like I should watch it!
2) Drug deals? TF you talking about? This is a legitimate prescription drug with a long 80-year history and record of safety, tens of thousands of studies, and has been tested for 100 diseases. Yes, I would like to "get my hands on it", as in: I would like to find a doctor who can prescribe it for ADD because as the article says, for whatever historical reasons it has been pigeonholed for seizures and so most doctors will only prescribe it for that as they don't want to go against the grain even though it has been conclusively shown to boost many dimensions of brain performance safely.
3) I got an HIV test done, and I don't have it. I didnt diagnose myself with it, the oral surgeon said the lesions in my mouth could be "hairy leukoplakia", which is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, and that mostly happens in people who are immunocompromised by the presence of HIV. The lesions are still there, and yes it is leukoplakia, but a different kind of leukoplakia, which has nothing do with any viruses, thankfully.
4) You probably want to immobilize that knee asap and go to the ER.
5) Yes, this is very serious. Why would it not be? I don't have seizures, I have severe ADD. Read the link in the OP. 4/8/2015 2:50:02 AM |

So, back to Dilantin.
Anybody here taken it for ADD, lack of focus, lack of motivation, mental fatigue, etc? If so, why did your doctor prescribe that and not the usual suspects? Did it work?
I seriously can't be the only one who has heard of this medication. I remember the depression thread in the lounge from years ago and there were so many pharmacological 'experts' in it, throwing out chemical structures, equations, and mechanism of action in the brain.
Where is eleusis? He knows all about stuff like this. 4/8/2015 2:53:51 AM |

the only information you have that supports dilantin for ADHD is that guy ... and everything else on the internet either points to this Dr. Whitaker, or says it's wrong/anecdotal ....
don't take dilantin for your adhd. All seizure medications "normalize the electrical activity in your brain" or "raise the threshold for electrical firing ...."
this isn't special or confined to dilantin and doesn't make it a candidate for ADHD

Folks that take Dilantin need to have drug levels monitored since it can reach toxic levels if it is not metabolized properly.
It can cause some rather disfiguring gum swelling. Can also cause stevens-johnson syndrome; where all of your skin sloughs off -- not a pleasant experience for those that suffer from it/survive it.
It is a sodium channel blocker and can screw up your heart rate. I have seen it convert someone out of atrial fibrillation back into sinus rhythm.
It's not really a drug anyone should take unless they absolutely have to IMHO.
Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
fever, swollen glands, body aches, flu symptoms; skin rash, easy bruising or bleeding, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness; upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); chest pain, irregular heart rhythm, feeling short of breath; confusion, nausea and vomiting, swelling, rapid weight gain, urinating less than usual or not at all; new or worsening cough with fever, trouble breathing; tremor (uncontrolled shaking), restless muscle movements in your eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck; patchy skin color, red spots, or a butterfly shaped skin rash over your cheeks and nose (worsens in sunlight); or severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling. Less serious side effects may include:
slurred speech, loss of balance or coordination; swollen or tender gums; or headache, dizziness, nervousness, or sleep problems (insomnia). 6/16/2015 4:13:46 AM |
