^^which is absurd and a big problem for lots of families. I know some people where a parent works full time at a decent job and it just covers child day care. 10-12k a year for daycare for a toddler isn't unheard of, and someone grossing 25k, minus taxes, insurance, etc ends up essentially working just for the kid they don't spend time with during the day.

Childcare for our daughter is almost 14k/year, or 1145/month. And it isn't like she's going to some exclusive preschool. That is just daycare, doesn't even include other day to day expenses.

So yea, 21k/year is a lot but it isn't outrageous.

Yep, the amounts often far exceed what is needed. My child support amount was $1020/month for my daughter, with her spending about 1/3 of the time with me, set when I was only making maybe $50k/year...and that was with free military medical. Otherwise, it would have been even more.

Even when I got 50/50 custody of her a few years back, the support amount was revised to $850/month. Eight-hundred fifty fucking dollars per month, for one child, who lives equally with both parents. Fucking robbery. Again, that was with free military healthcare; without that, and without me gaining half-custody, I bet my annual support amount would have been in the mid-$20k range.

Oh, and daycare was always in the roughly $250-500/month range, depending on age...if it had been more, the support amount would have been higher still.


FL also doesn't (or at least didn't last time I checked) have any cap on support amounts...if you're a baller and make a seven-figure salary, getting knocked up by you would be worth well into the six-figures for 18 years.

At one point, my ex was paying his ex-wife $4200/mo in support. They had 50/50 custody, both kids were in public school, and he paid for their health insurance and most other official expenses. Her rent was around $1600/mo. and she chose not to work for 2.5 years until the court ordered her to, wherein she got a part-time job at Macy's or something.

That said, I know many women who really struggle to get by and get NOTHING from their baby daddy's.

The whole system is so screwed up across the board but there are really no realistic solutions
