Going to Asheville for the first time tomorrow. Need suggestions for breweries to check out. Obviously we are going to hit green man and wicked weed. What about the lesser known ones?

Highland Brewing Company! Heading there next weekend myself XD I didn't think about Wicked Weed, I'll add it to my list as well.

Asheville Brewing Company was good.

If you go to Wicked Weed, try to plan on eating there. Service can really suck if you're just there for drinks/appetizers.

The Wedge, then hit White Duck Taco right down the road from it for the best taco's in asheville.

just stay in the little honey hole that has the Wicked Weed Funkatorium, Burial Brewing, Twin Leaf and Green Man. They are all a block or two from each other and excellent breweries/environments.

^^this

I really liked Twin Leaf and Hi-Wire. I'd stay away from Asheville Brewing Company...that place was scary (dirty, weak beer, if you sit outside there are a hundred pigeons shitting everywhere). Wicked Weed is nuts and Green Man is a good chill spot (least favorite of my beers after ABC...but still decent).

With those 4/5 spots within a three block radius, there really is no need to drive anywhere else.

We went hiking and ended up hitting the Sierra Nevada brewery on the way back. It's HUGE. Lots of fun. It had a really cool outdoor Pavilion area. I would highly recommend it.

Going back to that Asheville Brewing Company, are we talking about the ones just a few blocks from Wicked Weed? I always like that one. I believe they have a nasty facility about a mile west of downtown. In terms of breweries, adding French Broad and Lexington Ave. Went to Oscar Blues in Brevard last month. It was OK, but not great. Highland is my favorite in Asheville, overall. I'm scared to go back to Wedge. If the McPoyles started a brewery, that's what I envision it would look like.

I have been to the new sierra Nevada brewery a couple times and I agree, it is amazing. I cant wait till they open all the biking and hiking trails. If you are ever near Asheville, you need to stop to check it out. I also agree with going to the wedge and then white duck taco.

Highland might be my favorite brewery (just counting the beers you can get in bars and stores, never actually been there)
