Jumanji is getting a remake? WTF? Does no one have any original ideas anymore? Why is everyone so obsessed with remaking 80s and 90s movies? A remake of an old movie from the 50s, or earlier that isn't considered a classic is ok with me, but remaking newer movies is just stupid.

those people that make the "_________ Movie" spoofs should make a "Remake Movie" 8/6/2015 8:54:47 PM |

^I'm going to move to Hollywood and direct a movie called "Star Wars A New Hope." Then after that I am going to direct a movie called "Forrest Gump." That will be followed by my remakes of "Shawshank Redemption" and "Smokey and the Bandit." Those movies don't age well either, so they all need a remake too. 8/6/2015 9:17:03 PM |

I think we're just crotchety old men and it's all generational. I'm sure there were old people who would've made a thread on TWW if it was around when Scarface or The Fly or Oceans 11 came out, just like you or I might treat the remake of Total Recall or whatever other crap they put out nowadays

And you can also bring up remakes that are now considered the "classic" version.
Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, Little Shop of Horrors, The Thing, Heaven Can Wait, The Maltese Falcon,8/7/2015 3:54:02 PM |

Because its a business you need formulas that work to guarantee income to a certain extent.
Couple that with the hundreds of thousands of movies made taking most all original ideas and you get remakes, sequels, prequels, adaptations etc etc. 8/7/2015 3:59:16 PM |

Hollywood execs like funding "sure things". They don't like spending money on something no one's heard of.
^^Video games are a bit different. Games from PS1/N64 and PS2/GCN/Xbox era weren't made with HD screens in mind so they look pretty ugly these days. The NES/Genesis/SNES games fare a bit better though. 8/7/2015 4:07:26 PM |

I don't necessarily mind some potential remakes, as long as they aspire to be better than the first. Remakes that are exactly the same as the first? What's the point? Total Recall was a waste of time, because I pretty much saw that movie the first time it came out.
Some reboots however, have been very good..Batman, Mad Max, etc. 8/7/2015 7:06:31 PM |

^I am cool with remakes of black and white movies that are about 40+ years old and were done with crappy video equipment, but I don't think they need to announce a Jumanji remake less than 20 years after its release. That's just stupid. Movies age much better now because of color video, so I don't think a lot of remakes are needed. 8/7/2015 10:42:46 PM |

^^the total recall reboot was absolutely nothing like the original, and mad max wasn't exactly a reboot, just a new story in his saga. 8/7/2015 11:02:30 PM |

I can't tell if the guy implying that the original Jumanji movie was an "original idea" is being serious or not. 8/8/2015 1:33:07 PM |

^Yeah I know the movie was a run off of a book, but there is no need to make and remake so soon, or ever. 8/8/2015 7:36:23 PM |

Invasion of the Body Snatchers, 22 years Some Like it Hot, 24 years Little Shop of Horrors, 26 years Dawn of the Dead, 26 years Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, 24 years A Star is Born, 17 years The Man Who Knew Too Much, 22 years
21 years for Jumanji seems about right, especially considering the CG advances. 8/8/2015 9:41:25 PM |

I think they should just update the old jumanji with modern special effects, like what Lucas arts did with episodes 4-6. 8/8/2015 10:46:52 PM |

^At least that version had actual animals. If you are going to do live action, try not to CGI every damn thing. 9/16/2015 11:57:22 AM |
wolfdawg4 All American 5866 Posts user info edit post |
True, but since they're having the animals actually talk to Mowgli in this one, I'd rather they do life-like CGI all round than doing a CGI head on a real animal for when it's talking. Big animatronics a la The Neverending Story would be best, but the studio apparently didn't want to foot the bill for that. 9/17/2015 1:00:22 PM |
