What is amazing however, is that they sold 17 million dollars worth of media last year. 8/11/2015 12:32:38 AM

Was this the company that sent stamp-like cds order forms in the mail? When my family was first came to the states, my brothers and I didn't know better and just order all kind of cds and we racked up something like $300 bucks...this was in 95. And that's when I was introduced to the Eagles. And Micheal Jackson. #noregrets. 8/11/2015 1:03:27 AM

^It was probably Columbia House. I think they had a fairly large competitor (can't think of their name, not Sam Goody) but it was probably one of the two. They took advantage of the media preferences of the era (cassettes then later CDs) but also definitely were taking advantage of kids and teenagers with their pricing structure. 8/11/2015 2:12:28 AM

I got most of my cd collection as a kid from those idiots thanks to their 8 cds for a penny promotions and their inability to collect debt from a teenager. Probably spent 6 cents (plus whatever 6 stamps cost) for almost 50 cds. plenty of people fleeced them for even more, though. and they're only NOW bankrupt? 8/11/2015 8:32:40 AM

This needs to be another one of those facebook memes about kids these days and things they'll never experience. 8/11/2015 10:58:52 AM

iirc, Columbia House would give you 15? CDs, but then you were (supposedly) required to purchase 15 cds, or something like that.
Through BMG, you'd get like 8 freed CDs, but then you'd have to purchase only one.... then you'd have to respond every month and tell you didn't want the featured selection, or they'd automatically send it to you and charge you for it.
I got a ton of CDs through BMG.
My friend would just send the Columbia House CDs to the abandoned house next door. 8/11/2015 11:02:48 AM

I got tons and tons of CD's from BMG in the mid-90's. They always had the offer "get 8/10/12/etc CD's for the price of one... with nothing else to buy ever!"... Just had to pay shipping for them. I would get that offer, cancel my membership, then sign up again with a different name. I had an account, my mom, my sister, my dog, my middle name, my nickname(s), etc. Overall i guess it averaged out to about 2 or 3 bucks per CD after everything was said and done. 8/11/2015 11:58:18 AM
