Don't forget the Pizza Hut that they just approved to be built in historic Downtown. Nothing says small town charm like a franchise pizza chain

Everybody likes looking at historic downtowns and strolling past all the shops. Nobody actually likes buying things there or eating there because it's all overpriced and there is no parking.

Faux sentimentality is fucking stupid.

meh, I didn't live in Apex, but I went to Apex High School and spent tons of time in that town, and it wasn't that super. I mean, maybe it's improved, but for me its victory just kinda illustrates how little these "Best Place to Live" labels count for.

I feel like, if I were living in the best town in America, there would be topless women walking down the street. and people would be smoking blunts on the sidewalk, and offering you a puff as you passed. and there would be free pizza available in the town square or something. and high-school-wide orgies once a week.

I'm not a fan of the phrase "an historic"

It just rubs me the wrong way

I like how they imply that little downtown area is emblematic of Apex.

go take a picture of some monster strip mall with a target and a sam's club, surrounded by cookie-cutter subdivisions, and then you've got a good idea of what Apex is like.

They have done something. But they need to do more.

Isn't this just a re-hash of 2001-2004 for Apex? Seems like just over a decade ago they were gathering these accolades like crazy. I think that's what gave rise to some of the growth that BobbyDigital is referring to. Opening 540 as a toll road has made that area much more accessible for folks working in Durham and RTP than it was in previous years.

Perhaps best place to live if your requirements are

- living in the 'burbs
- places that make you feel safe and fuzzy
- Good assortment of quality restaurants like Chili's, Applebees, Moe's, etc
- Nice cul-de-sacs because who needs a biker/pedestrian friendly infrastructure when its the American Way to drive everywhere.
- A beautiful picket fence for every house enclosing your beautiful yard.

Seriously though what is the target audience for "Best Place". Perhaps if you are married and making babies then sure i'm sure it is very pleasant safe place to live with lots of good schools and family friendly activities.

You can play youth basketball with 7' hoops in Apex, NC, the Peak of good living! Forget about those 10' hoops in Cary *

You lost me here. I've never seen a house with a picket fence. Is that just a stereotype from the 70s/80s you're still propagating?
