Yea, going to keep an eye out on their facebook and shit. I've never actually had to go through this stuff before. We didn't go this year and last year we got a room transferred to us from someone else who had two.

hey guys. never been to a con, much less dragon con, however me and a couple of out-of-town friends have been planning to hit up something like this within the next year and was curious. how difficult is it to score a nearby hotel and how far out do you have to reserve one?

So DragonCon takes places in 5 different host hotels. To get one of these, you essentially have to be lucky and try a year in advance.

However, there are many hotels in the area that are within walking distance, and they're not too hard to get. Although you still have to book pretty far in advance.
