Great opener the other night. Already like it more than Coven and Freak Show. Sad to see that Jessica Lange isn't in it this season but Kathy Bates seems to be doing a pretty good job. Took me a while to realize the bald cross dresser was the same actor who played the con man in the last season.

Glad to see they picked up vampires now, I figured it was only a matter of time. I would at least assume they were vampires since there was that whole Nosferatu reference. Given they are unaffected by sunlight and they use sharp gloves rather than fangs I think they are paying direct homage to The Hunger, a vampire movie from 1983 with Susan Sarandon and David Bowie.

Also, anyone notice that the carpet in the hotel is a direct reference to the Shining? I figured the Shining would show up a lot this season.

The show is now total filth. Shock for the point of shock. It's finally been deleted from my dvr list.

Did you like the earlier ones? I really liked the first season, kinda liked the second season, but the third and fourth seasons (the witches and the carnival) never drew me in and I stopped watching after a few episodes.

I really enjoyed S1, S2 had a ton of potential and was worth the watch, S3 was pretty weak but I made it through to the end, S4 was so awful and it might as well have been American Horror Story: Glee. This season looks like it is going to be just as bad if not worse. I will give it another episode or two and then it is going off the DVR for good.

If they just kept to the style of S1 it would be an awesome show, it's like the writers have a pretty cool idea and then just completely run out of ideas after an episode or two.

Definitely thought that was the case with the ghost and the strap on drilldo.

So do you guys think Freak Show is worth a binge? The first season I watched in 2-3 sittings, and it was awesome after I got in a few episodes (really heavy themes to start). The second season I watched in one sitting with some lovely bourbon to lower some suspension of belief. I enjoyed that one much more. I watched Season 3 on TV, and that was 99% terrible with a few sparks of brilliance. I was really hoping the one sitting thing would make a difference, but I have heard so many bad things about Freak Show that I just don't know if I would put up with it.

Freak Show is not worth it. It is easily the worst season so far. The only good parts were the killer clown (who wasn't in it enough) and the David Bowie songs.

As someone who hasn't seen any other installment except freak show, i thought the opener was good. Definitely like the main cop guy. I really don't mind it being gaga heavy because i'm also interested in the vampire theme, and she's definitely weird enough to pull off being part of the show. I'm a little sad there's no jessica lange because i thought she was the best actor on the show in freak show (other than Dandy).

It got really sluggish during the middle of it, however the final 2 episodes were pretty intense.

Honestly I'm glad that Jessica Lang isn't doing it anymore. I was getting tired of the show being so centric to her.

I felt like this first episode was way too over the top. As to vampires; do we have any proof thus far that those 2 are vampires? I got the impression they're just two psychos.

They are something supernatural. Kathy Bates' son OD'd/died on whatever drugs Sarah Paulson gave him. I'd assume that Lady Gaga did something to bring him back to life. Also, based on a few hints it is clear that this isn't the first time they have lured people back to kill them and drink their blood. If they were just human psychos I'd think constant intake of human blood would make them sick.

Good points...

On a related note, we all basically now know what Gaga looks like naked.

She hasn't exactly been shy with that in the past. Pretty sure there are videos of her that show more than that.

I quit Freak Show after episode 7 (the one with the Michael Chiklis hug-of-death). Is it worth finishing?

Wow this season is pretty intense so far. I think they are seeing just how far they can go on cable TV.

I actually like this season. I have shat on the last two seasons and was pretty disappointed with S2 but I just caught up with the second and third episodes and I actually like it. I enjoy how much more dark this season is, I hope they keep it up and don't turn it into the musical numbers of previous seasons.

Finally got around to this one, I'm 5 episodes in. I was pretty meh about it until the school lockdown, that's the most intense the show has ever been (although I can't help questioning how the main kid knew how to feed and kill people while all other characters needed hand holding through their first time)

I wish the story had been laid out slower. Sure each episode gives us a different character's back story but we know right away who is good or bad and who can be trusted. Season 1 was so intriguing because we had no idea what to think.
