my friend got me a Yeti tumbler and a Yeti koozie for my birthday. I can be drinking ice water out of the tumbler on Friday and come back to work on Monday and the ice is still solid.
The koozie is awesome as well. 10/19/2015 10:54:31 AM

I'm not judging (because I own a Big Green Egg), but Yeti seems really trendy.
If you're a true outdoorsman and fish/hunt, I can understand owning a cooler that costs that much. But if you're wanting to keep your beer cold, Yeti is way too expensive.
It defeats the whole purpose if you keep opening the cooler for beer.
My true test is what my inlaws use. They're true coon-asses from Louisiana and they all have Coleman coolers. I asked them what they think about Yeti and they laughed at me. 10/19/2015 12:01:57 PM

^ I'm not sure why they'd laugh at you. The design is really good and it does a great job for what it's intended for. I've see a Yeti cooler outlast a Coleman cooler many times.
But like you said, if you buy it for the sole purpose of tailgating or one day drinking events then you've wasted your money as any regular cooler would work. 10/19/2015 12:19:31 PM

According to this review the Yeti doesn't even place. All the other coolers are better. The Coleman Extreme (cheap) comes out as the best bang for your buck. Yeti's don't even have wheels. They expect me to carry that much beer on my shoulders?!

That video is over 5 years old. Most people I've talked to with Yeti coolers that love them have newer models.
I haven't met anyone yet that disagrees with the fact that they are overpriced, and almost everyone buying them is paying for the brand name and has no need for something that pricey to keep their beer cold. 10/19/2015 1:31:26 PM

True. Hey you can add wheels to your Yeti for $159.95:
http://www.amazon.com/Badger-Wheels-Single-Tundra-35-160/dp/B00O7ADTES
I was considering using part of my REI dividend on one last year but after using my $35 Coleman a bunch of times outdoors I decided it wasn't worth the money. Maybe in like Florida or the Southeast where it's hot at night it would be nice. Coleman works fine where it's almost freezing at night even in the summer. I could upgrade to the Coleman Extreme for $68.... 10/19/2015 1:37:40 PM

If you've got $35 laying around you could always get a coozy. http://amzn.com/B00SU9ACGA
Also, everyone I've met that has a Yeti seems like the kind of person that would buy a $500 cooler and then stock it full of the cheapest lite beer they can find, plus a couple of limearitas for the ladies. 10/19/2015 1:48:14 PM

I've never been a big coozy fan. I drink beer fast enough where I can never notice a change in the temperature of the can or bottle. Plus I like the cold feel on my hands. Similar to the feel you get holding a pint. Feels like you're actually holding a beer rather than a pool noodle. 10/19/2015 1:52:10 PM

^^that's exactly what my one friend did. bought the big ass one and we took it to the beach and it took four of us working on shifts to get it out there, so then he bought a smaller one too. And yes, it's Natty Light and Bud ritas when he fills it. In his defense, he bought it to bring to his girlfriend's volleyball tournaments. 10/19/2015 1:55:21 PM

Maybe I'm old fashioned but often I skip the cooler and just toss the bottles or cans in the creek. Cools them off nice and fast. Obviously not an option for everyone though. Works great if you're fishing though and near water. 10/19/2015 1:57:08 PM

^^^Tried that last time we went camping up near the New. The river was too damn warm, beer was "cool" at best, and warm before the 3rd sip.

Yeah depends on where you are. If snowmelt is the source of the river it's usually pretty damn cold. I don't remember the new being that cold though. In fact we swam at the New River Gorge and it was quite warm. 10/19/2015 2:48:36 PM

We were floating down the Colorado in October last year and it was just cold enough to chill your beer. We saw a big group of college kids who had a laundry bag full of PBRs floating behind their raft. Genius. 10/19/2015 4:01:39 PM

I was betting you'd pop in after that. If you think me floating down a river that I live close to for free drinking pbr is a brag then I'm not going to argue with you. I would have thought the New River Gorge would have been more of a humble brag as it's a national known climbing destination. 10/19/2015 4:25:43 PM

Yes thank you. There's many popular places on the Colorado that are free to put in at. I live close to it. Therefore free+big fun river = fun.
I can pretend I still live in NC and talk about Wilson Creek all the time if that makes synapse happier.

Naw this is a "We get it, you live in Colorado" situation, not a bragging situation, but it is funny when you combine the two.

So should I have not mentioned the Colorado? I don't see your point...it seemed relevant to keeping beer cold.
And yes networking at the hot tub in Vail is A+++. Looking forward to it at the end of December. Already have my 90k Marriott points saved up for two nights. Again another free activity I like to indulge in. Along with floating down the Colorado drinking PBR. Also free. It seems like most of my brags are either free or very inexpensive activities compared to you guys. 10/19/2015 8:07:25 PM

True but I'm not paying anything to earn the points. So for example if you were given a free coupon for dinner wouldn't you consider that free even though the coupon has a monetary value? 10/19/2015 8:24:26 PM
|
synapse play so hard 60940 Posts user info edit post |
It's a currency like any other, how you acquired them doesn't diminish the monetary value
and you know as well as I you can sell those points for $texas, but you'd be lucky to get #rhody for that dinner coupon.

True but all I said was the activity was free. I used points (as you said doesn't matter how I acquired them) and I did something that was monetarily free to me. The fact that I used a means that had monetary value to do said free event doesn't mean it wasn't a free event. It simply means something of value was used to do it.
Another example. I got two free season passes last year. They have monetary value as I could give them to whoever I wanted. I took advantage of those free passes all year and it was completely free. Does the passes having monetary value diminish the fact that I was doing the activity for free? Or am I missing the point you're trying to make?
V - a decent cask ale is served much warmer than tap beer and is often quite good. Just saying. Queue insufferable comment from Synapse.
