Well, I think a couple of things are out of whack. First and foremost, there are already a lot of people being named as members of the clan, who may very well have no affiliation with the KKK. No doubt, there probably are members of the clan on that list. But knowing Anonymous' record of sometimes playing fast and loose with the facts, it would not surprise me if there were innocent people on that list.

Which brings up two more topics

1. Secured data and hacktivism - I mean mother fuck the KKK, but I am not so sure I'm down with people's stolen data being used against them. Especially in the name of hacktivism. I mean, this by some definitions could be considered extortion.

2. Ease of character assassination. If we are being honest with ourselves, I am sure we can all agree that if someone gathers the right information about you, (ranging from creating an online profile about you to a confidentiality breach -think Donald sterling- ) your complete reputation could take a significant tumble. I think that online character assassinations will continue to grow. That is a bit of a bleak future.

also, on the kkk specifically, are they even a worthwhile target anymore? They arent the secret group full of power brokers anymore, it seems. They are just another redneck criminal gang, essentially. I mean they even had a Gangland where everyone was un-costumed

the main problem with a de-centralized, leaderless organization like Anonymous is that there's no official roster of who is and isn't anonymous. I could release a list of people that I just despise, and claim it's the official Anonymous list of KKK dickhheads, or pedophiles.

If they're going to play this hacktivism game, such lists need to come with evidence. Otherwise, to me it's just noise. Unfortunately, the majority of the population isn't savvy enough to make evidence-based decisions about anything. They'll cling to whatever conclusion fulfills the current emotional need.

yeah...anonymous pretty much lost credibility with me when they tried to hack my jerb because of some dickwad's desire for 15 mins of interweb fame. they assumed some bullshit and turns out they were wrong in their assumptions. they made threats and wanted to force a public apology without knowing any of the facts. fuck their shooting-from-the-hip vigilante bullshit. they are pretty much GOLO with haxin' skillz.

that said, I can't wait to see what proof they have that links thom tillis to the klan.
