many people use perfume and cologne interchangeably. by perfume do you mean it smelled like women's perfume? also, there are several unisex sprays that smell both spicy/woody/musky and sweet/flowery/"perfumy".... ask him what he is wearing!

not to rag on your chain too much, OEP, but I have never known any person whatsoever who did this.

perfume=women's fragrance
cologne=men's fragrance

it's universal
