They reported several position changes, Pratt to LB, Alston to CB, etc.

The offense apparently got wrecked by the defense. Mainly seems like we had some guys banged up on the OL and the back-ups were getting wrecked to the point it basically killed our offense.

Sounds like McClendon will be the starting QB barring an injury.

Yes. Its kind of early to draw conclusions but I have little confidence in the coaching staff, and losing prospects on a one-dimensional offense doesn't look good.

I mean the guy did well on the practice squad and in camp. Let's not act like he was Bo Hines and went out and actually performed and we lost him.

How many times have we heard hype about a player after their redshirt year and they never lived up to it?

Hell Doeren made McClendon sound like he was going to be even better than Brissett after his RS year and then ever since then it hasn't been even remotely close to the same level of praise.

I think we have a lot of good players. Our running offense should be solid, our passing offense hopefully should consist of throwing to a wider range of receivers instead of backs running out of the backfield. Our defense looked like shit when we actually played an ACC team with a decent offense but hopefully that can improve. If our coaches get their heads out of their ass I think we should have a decent season. Nothing historical, but a winning season under this schedule would be a success for the program.

yeah our D was pretty good against the teams it should dominate and was abused by good offenses (Clemson, UNC, Miss St specifically). the D is a veteran unit this year - mostly seniors and juniors....so there is hope that they become a consistent, more well-rounded unit year.

Not many defenses really held up to Clemson, UNC, or Miss. St. this year. Those were 3 potent offenses, and it didn't help Miss. St. had extra time to prep for us. Plus we just struggled against mobile QBs, which all 3 of those had really good ones.

Our defense will be the strength this year. We just have to wait and see if that's because the offense is terrible or if it's because the defense has finally matured to the point of playing mainly veteran players.

Really hard to draw too much from the spring game, it was 1's vs 2's for offense and defense, so it makes perfect sense the 1's would win 47 to 0.

All reports from practice was that our 1st team D was wrecking shop against our 1st team O, a lot because of injuries along the OL, so that was more about keeping fan confidence up.

Team's success this year will be gated by our OL. The RBs are great, the WRs are good enough, and I think our QB situation will be fine with either guy winning the spot. If the OL is garbage though, none of that will really matter.

Spring game analysis:

Louis is the real deal, him and Trowell should have big years...and I dunno what the hell happened to Cherry.

RBs will be so good and deep...

QB job looked like Jakobi's to lose...he has the ability to run too which helps with a not so great line.

Defensive secondary is going to suck again...DL is good.

and McKever played at WR...he is one tall dude.

and Fraiser against that atrocious defense was laughable.

They didn't run very many plays as far as the run game goes, kept a lot of the quirks out of the spring game.

It will be a lot of jet sweep, play action, screen/bubble passes and QB naked bootlegs this year if Jakobi wins the nod.

If it's McClendon, midfield TE routes over the middle and crossing patterns.

We still don't have a deep threat though and it will come to haunt us against some good ACC teams that can stack the box.

*Louis might can be that guy...he seems to be the QBs go to guy and was open most plays.

Yikes, I never seen corners get burned so consistently as ours. I still don't understand how Tocho get playing time yet alone a scholarship to a D1 school. He literally seems to always be running behind his guy. Our only deep threat defense is a bad pass.

apparently its part of the new offense. It was just the play without all the pre-snap motions, etc etc.

So they kept a lot of the plays pretty basic, compared to how it will be come the fall.
