I think the ACC might just suck this year. Our second best team got taken behind the woodshed. I don't think this was just a bad game from Louisville... their offensive line played horrifically.

If Clemson runs the table they'll get into the playoffs but I don't know if I would bet that they could beat Alabama or Ohio State.

Holy shit, I just now saw that they lost. I went to bed at like 7pm last night. LOLouisville.

Well, looks like we're going to get an Alabama vs. a Big Ten team in the championship. That'll be a one sided ass kicking.

Louisville is a completely different team at home versus the road. Like night and day different. Does suck for the ACC and I can't stand the idea of OSU getting in without winning their division even though I was rooting for that with UL.

Zay Jones of ECU broke the NCAA record for career receptions.

In other news ECU lost 66-31 to Navy for their 8th loss since playing us. Just to put in perspective how shitty a loss that was.

Nebraska this year might have been the most overrated team in recent memory.

There's also a decent chance that Penn State could lose today.

OK state should be in the playoff picture if they beat Oklahoma. They only have 1 actual loss. The committee should fix that travesty of justice if it comes to comparing them to other 1 loss teams.

Why? He's not a particularly great defender and he barely registers as a "two way" player or returner. He has 60 tackles on the year, 4 sacks, 0 INTs, 166 yards from scrimmage, and 4 total TDs (3 rushing, 1 punt return).

He's done nothing to merit consideration.

because of Western media ... the fact that he's even in "consideration" is a farce but if he had a highlight of him dump trucking an ohio state player (no one would care it was the kicker on SC top 10) that they could play around the clock the hype would be unreal... add to that doing it in a 2 v 3 game to upset Ohio State and likely propel them to the play off and you have a story that would play non stop until the selection was made.

So, once again shaping up to be Alabama, Clemson, and potentially two super undeserving conference champs in Washington and Penn State. If Wisconsin wins I guess they could jump Ohio state ahead of them but it would be hard to put them in over the objectively worse Penn State if they won since PSU has a head to head win.

Awesome.

Alabama is in no matter what and they're going to repeat. They're by far the best team in the country. Clemson is in assuming they win. The last two spots are tougher.

I think if Wisconsin wins, which is likely, Penn State is not a good team then then they're a lock. They can justify it by talking about how OSU beat Wisconsin, strength of schedule blah blah blah. If Penn State wins it's hard to see them excluding PSU and putting in OSU instead. There's no way they put in two Big Ten teams and leave out Washington based on everything they've said about how important it is to win the conference.

What's really interesting is what happens if Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma and takes the Big 12 title. They only have 1 actual loss and have already gotten fucked by the NCAA once this year. It's hard to see Ohio State jumping two conference winners.

Ultimately I think Ohio State is in, but it's going to be tricky to sell it if Penn State, Washington, and Oklahoma State win. Good luck trying to talk your way around that one.

This is what happens with a 4 team setup, it was stupid to begin with. The BCS worked fine, best two teams and be done with it. If you don't want to do that then do 8 teams, put in the conference champs and then a couple of wildcard slots. You've got way less controversy then. It's very rare you end up with more than 5 or 6 legit contenders, but frequently there's more than 4.

The playoff works better than the BCS since there are 4 teams instead of 2. No matter how many teams you have the last team out is always going to feel like they got screwed. And I agree that an 8 team tournament would be better. If this is anything like the history of college basketball then over the years the tournament will only expand more and more Since 1998 we have already gone from 2 teams to 4 teams in the playoff. Before that 1 and 2 could play in different bowl games and cause a co-national championship.

No matter what happens I think Alabama and Ohio State deserve to be there more than anyone else. They've looked like the best 2 teams this year and OSU got screwed by the refs late in the close game vs PSU. Losses should count for something with so few playoff spots otherwise they just need to not play OOC games anymore.

The big factors right now are

Oklahoma State lost to Central Michigan
Oklahoma was destroyed by Ohio State
Clemson and Penn State both lost to Pitt.
Penn State was destroyed by Michigan
Wisconsin lost to Ohio State and Michigan
Washington has 1 loss to USC who lost to Alabama, Stanford, and Utah
Ohio State tied for first in the division, but isn't in the title game because of a tie breaker.

Alabama 1
Ohio State 2
Clemson 3
Washington 4

If Washington loses then you probably put the Big Ten champion in there, but I doubt they are brave enough to put 2 teams from the same conference in the playoffs.

Well, aside from the fact that Oklahoma State got utterly fucked and didn't actually lose. It was the most correctable, easy to overturn loss I can remember. They added an untamed down when the rule doesn't allow that and OK state then lost on that play. Fix it, there's nothing subjective about it.

I agree, Ohio state is clearly a better team than Penn State or Wisconsin. The problem is that the committee has put themselves in a position where they have to ignore their own rules to put in the best teams.

The BCS had a specific purpose, put the 2 best teams together for the title. In the BCS era they got it right every time.

The playoff system we have now doesn't do as good a job at getting us a good title game.

^And #1 ranked USC.

^^IIRC, the rules for the playoff committee were to pick the 4 best teams and give special consideration to conference champions while also looking at head to head and results vs common opponents. The only real rule they have to follow is that the P5 champions and the G5 number 1 team get a spot in a New Years 6 bowl.

The teams with a fair argument right now.

Alabama
Clemson
Washington
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Ohio State
Wisconsin
Michigan
Penn State

Right now Alabama, Clemson, Washington, and Ohio State are the only teams left with less than 2 losses and Ohio State is the only one to have beaten 3 of the teams I have listed above. The head to head vs Ohio State eliminates Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Michigan. If Oklahoma, Clemson, and Washington win then this is pretty simple.

Ohio State is also the only one in that group who can't be a conference champion.

I think conference champions should be given preference over teams that don't win their conference. Otherwise, what's the point of a regular season?

Here's what I think. Alabama is in regardless of the result of the SEC championship game. Clemson and Washington are in with wins. If Penn State also wins, I think Ohio State should be out.

^So? Losses need to count for something. There are no automatic bids to the playoffs for conference winners, just a guarantee that they get a New Years 6 bowl. Wisconsin is in the title game after losing to Michigan and Ohio State just because they happen to be in the other division. With the way these mega conferences are set up now the best teams don't always play in the title game. You can't put all of the weight on that. There are actually a lot of times where the 2 best teams play in the same divisions.

^^ Agreed. If you're not good enough to win your conference championship, you shouldn't get a shot at a national championship.
