Go is a hard game to score live, but the AI has a slight lead possibly right now.

Also funny how the announcers anthropomorphizing the strategy/playing of AlphaGo.

We can pretty much say that AlphaGo DESTROYS the Confucius east Asia now. Go game is considered as one of the most important cultural symbols of the Confucius world, including China, Korea and Japan.

The Korean player should give up now. He should stop playing with Google Deepmind. Because I know how crazy they are. If he keeps trying, it will probably a straight 0-5 and it will turn to be very very ugly. The human loses confidence more and more, and the machine keeps up learning every game and gets more and more powerful and intelligent. Very scary.

^ that's not what the pro analyst is saying. He was speculating AlphaGo can learn a new playing style, and continue to help evolve the game of Go (the current iteration can't do this).

What AlphaGo shows, more significantly, is that AI can learn heuristics on its own to help tackle problems with untenably large search spaces (which is most interesting real-world problems). It learns these heuristics from humans (as AlphaGo is heavily influenced by human players, per AlphaGo's programmers), but can extend them beyond human capability using self-play and brute force computation.

It won't be too long before we have the processing power to present real-world problems to these system, to get answers that exceeds the best human answers.

Keep in mind Go is thousands of years old (4000 years at this point) and has an enormous amount of study and research applied to it... but Go can still create strategy to beat a top human.

For reference, xkcd had go as the hardest game for a computer to exceed a human at.

Maybe because the pressure is off since the computer swept the first three games, but it just resigned in the fourth game. Man wins round 4!

Yay humans.

AlphaGo is heavily biased towards human training data of pro players, I wonder how making some non-pro moves is weighted by alpha go.

^it's already made some extremely "non-human" moves in multiple games. In game 2 it made a move that both the english and chinese (#1 ranked go player currently) commentators outright stated was "bad", until about an hour later when alphago steered Lee Sedol directly into that early move cementing central territory.

So it does oddball shit all the time, so much so, even the top players in the world are starting to say they want to practice against alpha go to learn the real "meta" of go...since app humans have had the wrong idea for about 3 thousand years.

or at least that's what they said. I knew go existed but fuck if I have any idea how to actually play it.

"Google engineer warns the firm's AI is sentient: Suspended employee claims computer programme acts 'like a 7 or 8-year-old' and reveals it told him shutting it off 'would be exactly like death for me. It would scare me a lot'

-Blake Lemoine, 41, a senior software engineer at Google has been testing Google's artificial intelligence tool called LaMDA
-Following hours of conversations with the AI, Lemoine came away with the perception that LaMDA was sentient
-After presenting his findings to company bosses, Google disagreed with him
-Lemoine then decided to share his conversations with the tool online
-He was put on paid leave by Google on Monday for violating confidentiality"

^^ he’s an idiot, but it won’t be long now… we’ll have increasingly more sentient-seeming AI over the next 10 years, we won’t know when the transition actually happens
