Quote :
"The series, created by McBride and Jody Hill (who were also behind the premium cabler’s beloved comedy “Eastbound & Down”), is a dark comedy series about a high school and the two people who almost run it, the vice principals. McBride and Walton Goggins play rival administrators who are constantly at odds with each other as they compete for the top spot of principal.

“It’s every f—er for himself,” Goggins declares as the two crash forklifts into each other.

Goggins’ Lee Russell, the newcomer at the school, is well liked by the staff and students, while McBride’s Neal Gamby struggles to make connections and seems almost universally hated by everyone on school grounds."

So it's essentially Eastbound & Down but Kenny Powers is a vice principal now instead of a baseball player.

Saw this the other night and enjoyed it. It really is basically Kenny Powers as a Vice Principal.

I was excited about this, and I did enjoy most of the first episode, but I wasn't blown away or anything.

This McBride vehicle should in no way be compared to the greatness that was Eastbound. They didn't even attempt to explain how McBride's character earned the job of VP despite his obvious flaws - I couldn't get past that. I wish this series the best of luck.

But for the car people out there - was he driving Al Bundy's Dodge?

^^ the VPs at my high school weren't really very high caliber people... i can easily see some small rural high school having a guy like this.

His dad was a very well thought of principal (at the same school/district?) so it's implied that since it's a small town that he's followed in his footsteps, etc.

This episode was better. Definitely had some good awkward cringe moments.

Yea, I picked up on the reference to his dad, but he's not running a family business he's VP at a school. And I punished myself and watched ep. 2 - no laughs combined with [spoiler alert] multiple felonies committed in the middle of the day as if it's not big deal does not equal a better episode. Even HBO gets it wrong every now and then.

I mean, were you looking for a biopic on vice principals? it's a fictional comedy with Danny McBride and you're holding it to realistic standards

Watched the first two episodes and lolled a number of times. Mostly just at Danny McBride's delivery on everything. "Fuck your face. Fuck your butt."

I really enjoyed Eastbound and I loved Boyd Crowder in Justified. Great to see Walton again and this role allows him to be pretty damn funny, while also a devious and crazy motherfucker. Two episodes in and loving it.

Pretty epic shoutout/product placement/cameo for bojangles in one of the episodes. A writer/McBride/somebody had definitely spent some time in one before! Made me

I know its supposed to be a comedy but damn if Goggins isn't stealing the show. His character is very believable.

I'll keep watching, no matter if the critics say it sucks...It's got me. Especially after they burnt the house down.

agree. I guess they were trying to really establish the love line and give a break from the "get Dr. Brown back" plot line.

I'm thinking it was Lee that shot him and torched the cars. He was clearly acting odd when they were raising the flag (I thought maybe he was recording it with the pen camera) and he can easily pin it on Brown.

I'm ashamed to admit I finished out the season despite my earlier complaints after seeing McBride on with Bill Simmons. McBride made it seem like this was going to be a one season deal - has it already been picked up for a second season? The show did get better, but the laughs just weren't there for me. Disappointed they went with a who shot JR style season-ending cliffhanger, but I'll join in the speculation. No way it was Lee, his MO ain't shooting people. It was clearly Blythe Sason acting on orders from Dr. Brown.
