I'm looking for an empirical answer...I couldn't find it on DOT website and I don't happen to know any optometrists. Google doesn't like the way I'm asking the question = tww.
Scenario is I'm driving down a two lane road at 35mph. How large does a sign have to be for me to be able to read it at 100-500ft distance. The sign would have a logo, a 4-digit number, and a phone number.
Working with a planning board on signage ordinance and I've heard up to 6sqft (2x3 sign), 4sqft, and 1.5sqft. Distance from the ground to the bottom of the sign would be 2ft.
I've found the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, but I'd rather check to see if this is the right direction or not before I dig into this mf 3/16/2016 9:21:13 PM |

The sign has to be at least as big as the font size you pick 3/17/2016 3:40:02 AM |

MUTCD is regarding traffic control, safety, etc., not a book on proper advertising. What you need to do is contact a company that manufactures/install such signs.
Now, the MUTCD will come in handy to ensure your ordinance follows safety regulations.

A local planning board has a discussion going of asthetics vs signage that's communicating info. I want to know if the signs that are already there are an appropriate size- not my anecdotal opinion, but something official.
My apologies for the confusion..."my" signs may not actually be mine, but they are already there. I can read them, but I'm also sure there's some sort of gov'ment guidelines out there that I can reference. 3/18/2016 11:54:08 PM |

Sounds like you need to check the local ordinance. 3/19/2016 11:21:22 AM |
