My cousin is involved in a nasty web of lawsuits that somehow involve Castle McCullough, a bunch of Andrew Wyeth paintings, the south's largest optometry firm, and some letters from George Washington. It's all based on some very complicated deals a few years back.

Now, I'm a reasonably intelligent, well-educated person. But he's explained these deals to me several times. A front-page story in the Greensboro News & Record tried to explain them. And I still don't understand them at. Fucking. All.

This gave me a revelation. Every county in America needs at least one guy or gal of approximately my intelligence and education. Any time you want to make a business deal, you have to explain it to that guy. If that guy does not understand it within ten minutes, you are not allowed to make the deal.

If this system had been in place in the 2000s, the great recession wouldn't have happened. Because after all these years I still don't understand all that jazz about credit default swaps, etc.

Of course, this is not a practical policy, no matter how sure I am that it would fix everybody's problems. What are your simple but never-gonna-happen solutions to the world's woes?
