Quote : | "WALTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46/AP) - A Walton County man's leg was severed just below the knee with a piece of shrapnel when he and his friends blew up a lawn mower.
The incident happened Wednesday afternoon in a rural area between Monroe and Bethlehem.
The Walton County Sheriff's Office said David Presley, 32, filled a lawnmower with three pounds of Tannerite, a combination of ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder, to blow up the lawn mower.
Presley then fired several rounds at the lawnmower, moving closer and closer to the object.
Once the lawnmower blew up, a piece of shrapnel hit Presley's leg, severing it below the knee.
Presley was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where his condition was unavailable.
Tannerite is sold legally at most sporting goods stores.
The sheriff's office issued this warning: "Please adhere to the warnings and use this dangerous material with caution or maybe consider other less dangerous hobbies. It's just not worth it for a loud boom!"

3 lbs is a pretty stout charge. I won't shoot that stuff any closer than 100 yds. 3/25/2016 10:55:48 PM |

^ agreed. Isn't 3lbs more suitable for a car not a lawnmower? 3/25/2016 11:15:35 PM |

idk. I've never shot more than 1 lb. We stuck the 1 lb can in the end of a big wooden wire spool and it blew the center portion all to hell. We put 1/2 lb under a plastic 55 gallon drum and it launched the drum 50+ ft into the air. 3/25/2016 11:21:32 PM |

I was under the impression you cannot put tannerite in things to cause debris to fly around. It's annoying when idiots do stupid things with guns. 3/25/2016 11:39:59 PM |

Laws can vary by state and municipality, but the only federal law is that you are supposed to use it for its intended purpose, which is a "shot indicator". That's pretty vague. The only real example of misuse the FBI gives is putting 50 lbs of Tannerite in a car with an "incendiary agent" (diesel fuel would probably work nicely). 3/25/2016 11:57:12 PM |

I've seen plenty of videos where people put this stuff in objects but at least they are a safe distance. It's never a good thing to make the news haha 3/26/2016 12:16:16 AM |
