I bet he was secretly gay himself

I think his dad put him up to this too

How does a single person shoot so many people without being stopped. Supposedly an armed guard engaged him but wasn't able to stop him. Pretty nuts.

Yah dad is kinda sketchy. Hours after the shooting "THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION" nothing to see here move along plz.

Quote :
"Mateen was born in New York. His father, Seddique Mateen, who has also been called Mir Seddique, once tried to run for the Afghan presidency and was heavily involved in politics, according to his Facbeook page, which includes photos inside a U.S. State Department office. He has also spoken out against the Pakistani government, and supported the Taliban.

“Our brothers in Waziristan, our warrior brothers in Taliban movement and national Afghan Taliban are rising up,” he said in one YouTube video, according to the Washington Post. “Inshallah the Durand Line issue will be solved soon.”"

Quote :
"Omar Mateen called 911 just before the shooting and pledged allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, NBC News reports.

He also mentioned the Tsarnaev brothers, who carried out the Boston Marathon bombing, during the call, CBS News reports.

ISIS issued a statement calling Mateen an “Islamic state fighter.”"

Quote :
"But The Daily Beast, citing a senior law enforcement source, said Mateen was a person of interest in law enforcement investigations in 2013 and 2014. The news website reports the FBI opened an investigation into Mateen at some point, but closed it “when it produced nothing that appeared to warrant further investigation.”"

Quote :
"The shooting happened during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, a time during ISIS has instructed its supporters to carry out terror attacks around the world, according to CNN.

A speech on May 21 by ISIS spokesman Abu Muhammad al Adnani, “That They Live By Proof,” called for attacks in the West. You can read the speech here and listen here."

From shooters ex wife:
Quote :
"The ex-wife said she met Omar Mateen online about eight years ago and decided to move to Florida and marry him.

At first, the marriage was normal, she said, but then he became abusive.
He seemed like a normal human being,” she said, adding that when they were married he wasn’t very religious and often worked out at the gym. She said in the few months they were married he gave no signs of having fallen under the sway of radical Islam. She said he owned a small-caliber handgun.

“He was not a stable person,” said the ex-wife, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because she feared for her safety in the wake of the mass shooting. “He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that.”
"

I don't think this is the worst mass shooting in US history, unless we're going to ignore the many native american massacres that occurred.

well thats another incorrect but at least somewhat correlational claim. FGM has no basis in islamic law and is a tradition that predates islam in most of the muslim places where it is common today.

http://www.unicef.org/egypt/media_3875.html
-egyptian courts, as one example have ruled that it has nothing to do with islam

When you start relating barbarism with a specific religion, you become a bigot.

is that sarcasm?
most G4S are people wearing an oversized ill-fitting suit who sit at a desk and play solitaire. One of the G4S guards at my office literally has a giant marijuana leaf emblem hot glued to the hood of his car. G4S does also do more high-risk stuff, but that's not the majority of what they do.

this guy threatened his coworker and that caught the FBI's attention.

so you're proposing anyone who makes a threat or otherwise catches the FBIs attention should never be able to buy a weapon? i'm as pro [more] gun control as the next guy, and probably more, but that's dumb. just like prohibiting no-fly list members from buying weapons is. the standard to meet isn't high enough.

"About 320 people were inside the Pulse nightclub when the gunman entered the club and started shooting, just before last call around 2 a.m. Witnesses reported hearing as many as 40 shots as they tried to rush to safety, with some crawling away on the floor across broken glasses and bottles, and others hiding in a restroom. An off-duty police officer working security at the club initially engaged in a gun battle with the shooter but was apparently unable to stop him. "

I can't find a great timeline of what happened but according to this he killed 1 out of 6 people in the club overall, and an off duty cop working security couldn't take him out.

You take a gang member off the street, put a gun in his hand, and tell him to shoot up a bunch of people, I bet he empties his clip and makes maybe 2 count. Fear.

You take a religious zealot, who in his mind is currently earning his golden pass to Heaven, put a gun in his hand and tell him that no matter what happens, he'll soon meet Allah, he can make much more use of the rounds. No fear. Also, it doesn't hurt that he had some kind of training. But I think it is mostly the fact that no matter how he comes out of this, he'll eventually go to Heaven no matter what.

How do you combat someone, or a group of someones, who are not afraid to die?

God I'm not looking forward to this week now. I'm going to have to listen to Trump rile up his base with Muslim hate and I'm going to have to listen to Hillary rile up her base with gun hate. I'm afraid this is going to play right into Trump's hands.

Ah yes, such sophisticated nuances are above my understanding, thank you for the lecture.

Perhaps one day I will peruse enough liberal media to believe that "Islamaphobia" is a larger threat than Islamic Terrorism.

Sure, 50 people were murdered by Isis, but we should condescendingly lecture people that a rock was thrown through a Mosque window. Good thing that neighbor next to the San Berndino terrorists understood the "nuances" of Islamaphobia, so he decided to not call about suspicious pipebombs for fear of being "Islamaphobic".

Dude, what's your answer? Ban all Muslims?

If you were to take percentages of Islamic Terrorists that have committed acts of terror vs the other 2.2 billion Muslims in the world, you would find an extremely small amount of Muslims that are dangerous. I work with several wonderful people who happen to practice Islam. I feel bad for them right now because those bastards can't eat or drink from sun-up to sun-down, and that's a shitty situation if you ask me.

Back on point. You can't sit here and yell at the other 2.2 billion Muslims because a couple hundred thousand, - if even anywhere close to that, are out there blowing themselves and others up. And you obviously can't ban all Muslims from the country. And you can't ban them from having guns. This guy was an American citizen FFS.

Now I'm as conservative as the next guy, but this shit is going to go too far. I think that maybe it's natural for a lot of people to fear something they don't understand, and lots of people don't understand Islam (I'll admit I'm one of them). But to sit here and imply Islamaphobia is a good thing is retarded.

It's a good think you edited that because you have to admit it was pretty dumb, somehow trying to link Republicans to Islam/Islamic Extremists for their views on homosexuality. All I have to say is that not all Republicans hate gay people, and not all Muslims hate gay people.

To try to link all of this together through homophobia...that is low even for you man.

Homophobia is the link between what could have happened in LA and what happened in Orlando, and what happens in legislators, churches, "pray the gay" away camps, etc around the country.

You (Royal you) can't bring up the Islam aspect of this without pointing out this type of hate is endemic to religion. Blood is on the hands of conservative Islam that preaches hate of gays, just like blood is on the hands of right-wing Christians that preach homophobia that causes people to commit suicide, disown their families, and pass laws restricting rights to gays, or fund groups that go to Africa to get laws making homosexuality illegal and punishable by death.

I edited the comment because you were having a good discussion with JCE and didn't want to interfere.

Am I the only one that becomes more desensitized to shooting sprees and other bad things as I get older? Seems like people on the Internet continue to get more and more shocked and outraged about the world, as if it's the first time they've heard of violence. This comment isn't specific to this attack. It just seems like the human mind will reluctantly gain an acceptance of "bad shit happening" and balance emotions out accordingly.

If you have ever talked shit about Christians in a general way or insulted Christianity or whatever, then I have no idea why would you contort yourself to doublespeak on Islam and Muslims.

Islam is obviously the crappiest of the three Semitic faiths right now.

And, in my experience, Muslims can be just as hypocritical, judgmental, neurotic, whatever as Christians.

Religious freedom and tolerance will always be very, very important. But I'm not going out of my way to correct somebody when they point out that Islam sucks; based on what we've observed in other countries, I don't think we can correct them. If anything, the most I'll do is point out that other faiths suck, too. We gotta be tolerant, but we also gotta keep in mind that they all suck. I'll take whatever -phobia label that comes with that, I guess.

I've known lots of homophobes, and those who are, I don't know how to say it, but "lightly" against the gay lifestyle. None have advocated violence against them. It has always been more along the lines of "There's no way it's genetic, there's got to be something we can do about their situation." These people would never be violent against someone.

I feel like I have to say that those are NOT my views, but those of the people I'm talking about.

I heard dtownral's wife is moving abroad to Syria, so she doesn't have to be around so many Jewish and Christian "cowards" in the United States.

She was recently appalled at all the tubby Christian bigots who ate Chick-Fil-A in some weak political statement. Mateen's homicidal devotion has opened her eyes to how courageous men of God should really behave.
