we had a kid with a brand new red Audi TT when they first came out. he drove a brand new Escalade when he got in trouble.
other cars I was jealous of at the time: new 330ci, new Subaru STi, new QX5 with $20k rims and JL audio sound system. 7/21/2016 3:48:15 PM |

one of my close friends in high school got a new BMW when he turned 16. think it was a 325i, but i might be wrong. early 2000s. his family was/is quite well off.
in terms of sheer dollar amount, there were a several pick ups that were pretty expensive since they were lifted, chromed out, pipes, big tires...but i'm not sure i'd call that "nice". just expensive.
i'm sure there a are some that i'm not remembering, but the BMW comes to mind easily since i was friends with the guy.

Some Azn-American chick who had a brand new, fully loaded 4runner. She was an incredibly mean, entitled, and stuck-up person. She also had a very hard time talking about anything other than herself...like, she would literally get uncomfortable if the subject of the conversation wasn't about her or her life. None (nobody had cars in high school).
When I taught high school, 2 of my students (fraternal twins) had the latest brand spanking new fully loaded:
M5 911 Turbo
I had been to their home... they had a $100,000 (my guess) dedicated gym at home in a separate building by the pool (better than any small commercial gym, chock full of machines and free weights), plus a small "mini zoo", with a deer and a couple of small mammals.
The one with the 911 Turbo later became my student at university too, and one day he gave me a ride back home from campus in his car, 20+ mostly highway miles. He told me the car cost $160,000. (in 2010) 7/21/2016 10:27:26 PM |

The nicest "cars" kids at my high school got were loaded trucks...mostly brand new Chevy Z71s with dual exhausts, brushguards, big-ass tires, etc. When you grow up in a rural area, kids don't get brand new luxury cars. Sometimes the doctors and lawyers kids would get used BMWs or Benzs...but I'm talking at least 5-6 year olds. The rich rednecks got tricked out trucks. 7/22/2016 11:10:19 AM |

didn't care enough to notice then. still don't really care much now.
from my point of view, having an expensive car is a waste of money that could have been invested in something with a much better return.
then again I don't really like driving in general. i will be one of the first to get a car that drives itself. 7/22/2016 11:14:47 AM |

My school was uniformly middle class, so nothing super fancy. The nicest one I can think of, very much an anomaly, was a kid in the class below mine who got a brand new Acura CL on his 16th birthday.
My favorite car at my high school was a red '70 Chevelle SS. Can't call it the nicest as he and his dad restored it in their garage, and it wasn't perfect, but it was badass. 7/23/2016 6:14:53 PM |

I went to a magnet school so there were very rich people and fairly poor people at my school. I knew most of the very rich people and not a single one of them had a nice car. Their parents either made them buy a car or gave them a shitty starter car to learn values. I feel bad for all the kids getting spoiled out there. 7/23/2016 6:32:38 PM |
