Quote : | "GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Body camera video released Monday by city leaders shows a former Greensboro police officer using "disturbing" excessive force. After releasing the video, city council members voted 8-0 in favor of a resolution calling for the permanent suspension of former Greensboro officer Travis Cole's law enforcement certification.
The video shows Cole displaying "wrongful conduct" during an incident on June 17.
When city leaders released the video during a press conference Monday, several people applauded.
The incident began with Cole and another officer responding to a possible breaking and entering call. When they arrived at the house, Dejuan Yourse was sitting on the porch.
Body cameras on both Cole and his partner captured what happened next, now described by police as Cole using excessive force on Yourse, who wasn't injured.
"I wouldn't dare as a chief tell anyone this kinda thing never happens," Greensboro Police Chief Wayne Scott told FOX8 Monday. "We have around 900 employees, over 680 sworn police officers on any given day getting dozens and dozens of calls and interactions. But what they can be assured of is we take this very serious."
Last Tuesday night, Greensboro City Council got the opportunity to view the body camera video and voted to release it to the public.
“Well, it's horrible! And I say this as a white male representative,” said Greensboro City Councilman Mike Barber last week.
“I was very concerned and disturbed about what I saw,” Westmoreland said.
Cole had resigned from the Greensboro Police Department in August in light of the investigation. Because he resigned, charges against him were dropped. But he would still be able to work in law enforcement elsewhere.
During Monday's press conference, Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan apologized to Yourse, who was in attendance, calling the incident "ugly." She read a resolution calling for the permanent suspension of Cole's law enforcement certification. The resolution passed by council members 8-0.
Numerous people spoke after the resolution, saying the resolution was not enough.
This is not the first time Cole has been in trouble with the department. In August 2014, Devin and Rufus Scales were arrested by Cole for blocking traffic on an empty street, public intoxication and resisting arrest.
Devin recorded his brother being handcuffed without incident, sparking questions about why he was charged. Those charges were eventually dropped and Cole was suspended." |
(video player in the news link is annoying, youtube link is same thing)
If this happened next week you would never see the video, the only one this even came to light was because an officer leaked info9/27/2016 12:52:58 PM |

Nobody disagrees that obvious cases of police brutality are obvious cases of policy brutality.
The only disagreement comes because people like you can't differentiate between this case, and cases where it isn't certain what happened. Hence you view "waiting for facts" as "defending police brutality". Which nobody is doing. 9/27/2016 1:29:17 PM |

No. The point is you need to differentiate between reality and narratives.
This, Tamir Rice, etc = Unjustified
Mike Brown = Justified
Keith Scott = Don't know yet
Rational people can differentiate based on facts and evidence as they become available. You people automatically lump them all into the "Bad racist cops innocent black man" category. Because you're stupid. 9/27/2016 1:45:45 PM |

Walter Scott was the man who got shot in the back while running from a particularly shitty cop. You can be like, "But why was he running?!?! He shoulda complied!" Then you see the cop shoot him in the back, and you're like, "Oooohhhh, he was running from a murderer."
Since nobody's mentioned it, I'll point out that that Justin Bamber guy--who is now representing the Charlotte family--is the same attorney who got Scott's family a pre-suit $6.5 million settlement down in South Carolina. I'm not sure how I feel about Bamber yet.
Tamir Rice was the pre-teen boy who was killed in the middle of a park after police literally drove through the park lawn to Rice's location, got out, and began firing on the child in less than 2 seconds. 9/27/2016 3:34:20 PM |

In the Walter Scott case the cop is being charged with murder and obstruction of justice. The family got $6.5 million.
I guess that doesn't appease the outrage lynch mob of SJWs though. Maybe you should go riot in Charleston to protest how much you hate "due process". I guess "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't sit well the the "racist until proven not racist, and even then still racist" types. 9/27/2016 4:03:06 PM |

^^^Anybody who is inclined to defend the police out of hand IS making an excuse for that officer because that's precisely how many police operate with populations they can intimidate and discredit--namely, poor minorities and young people.
If Dejuan Yourse did have outstanding warrants--and it's surprising he didn't--then that whole thing woulda been played as justified. Officer Cole would have just acted like he knew about the warrants prior to his attempt to detain Yourse, and Cole woulda been applauded for good police work.
Really, all the officer is doing there is betting that Yourse isn't 100% clear with the law--he missed a court appearance, failed to pay a fine, behind on some child support, missed a meeting with his parole officer, etc... It's a good gamble on Cole's part, but it's a gamble that fucks with people and their ability to enjoy the freedoms everybody else does. 9/27/2016 4:13:12 PM |

Right, we would never directly claim someone or something is racist because that would require proof that doesn't exist.
That's why we refer to our ace in the hole, the vague scape goat of institutional racism. The boogey man! Don't look at reality, here is some emotional anecdotal evidence for the narrative!

I hear ya, but you're misunderstanding.
I've known bunches of people from all backgrounds who've wound up with warrants out for their arrest.
It's so common--even just by mistake or error--that it is somewhat surprising to me when someone who's tangled up with the law doesn't have some bullshit warrant from some town somewhere. I am definitely judging the guy's prison tats a little too hard, but I don't assume all black people have warrants out for their arrest. I just know that they are so ubiquitous that lots of people are essentially "breaking the law" just by existing.
They need to make a searchable database where you can put in your SSN to find out if you have outstanding warrants cause sometimes it's hard to know. Then they could have a "GIVE US ALL YOUR MONEY" button where you can set up installments or some shit to get the police off your back. The system just wants money.9/28/2016 11:31:52 PM |

Are police officers slowly turning into little bitches as the millenial generation infiltrate the ranks? Look, you sign up to be a cop knowing that the job is dangerous, that you will get into physical confrontations, and you will get verbally abused. So why are you surprised and fearful when it happens and have to kill someone because they looked at you in an aggressive way? If you cant handle it then why the hell did you sign up in the first place? The full pension after 20 years with full medical benefits? Being able to handle and fire a gun?
If I sign up for the Army I do so with the idea that I could be on the front lines of a conflict and be in dangerous situations. I cant join the Army and choose where I serve or when I will be in harm's way.

Those people were around during actual periods of social injustice.
In 2016 the only way you can find "oppression" is if you don't understand how statistics work. The term "warrior" is also funny, because all 2016 SJWs do is virtue-signal on social media, or take selfies at protests before riots break out. There is no "social justice" left to fight for, and no "warrioring" to do besides "look at me see how much I care *click*.
