http://digg.com/2018/fisa-renewal-trump-tweet

Quote :
"Trump Tweeted Against His Own Legislation After 'Fox & Friends' Ran A Negative Segment On It"

Quote :
""Fox & Friends" ran a negative segment on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which authorizes American intelligence agencies to eavesdrop on foreign communications but also lets them monitor American citizens' communications without a warrant. At one point on "Fox & Friends," judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano directly addressed the president, urging him not to renew FISA."

Quote :
"Within an hour, Trump had tweeted a critical comment about FISA, alleging (without evidence) that it had been used by the Obama administration to "badly surveil and abuse the Trump Campaign.""

Quote :
"The only problem: The Trump administration officially supports FISA renewal. Just last night, the White House released a statement supporting renewal and opposing a proposed amendment by Senator Rand Paul that would strengthen Americans' privacy under the act. Someone apparently informed Trump of this some time after his tweet went out, because he followed it up with a second tweet a couple of hours later reaffirming his support for the FISA renewal."

^^Sorry, I have a Costco membership. Not sure why I would gloat about a store I've never been in.

Seriously though, one of the closed stores is in Morrisville. Right in our backyard. This effects our neighbors. It's sad you are using it to try to score some political point which doesn't even make sense.

It sounds like something he would say, and he probably did. And Haiti is indeed a shithole.

That doesn't excuse WaPo for putting out a story based on a couple people who didn't even hear him say it. This decline in journalism over the last couple decades is the reason that "fake news" is actually a thing.

You should ask yourself why might he deliberately do something that seems stupid. What could be the strategic purpose to going against his own team?

Yeah lots of places are

The context of the statement was trump was mad there were too many Africans here already, trump wants mostly white immigrants

“Thursday in the Oval Office when they discussed protecting immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan immigration deal, according to several people briefed on the meeting.

"Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" Trump said, according to these people, referring to countries mentioned by the lawmakers.

Trump then suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries such as Norway, whose prime minister he met with Wednesday.

In addition, the president singled out Haiti, telling lawmakers that immigrants from that country must be left out of any deal, these people said.”

It’s worth mentioning, although I shouldn’t have to, that even immigrants from shithole countries tend to have more educational attainment and entrepreneurs than Americans who’ve been here multiple generations.

For Haitians specifically, their kids are significantly more likely to have college degrees and even phds

Trump is grossly ignorant about many things, and he’s shown himself to be racist many times, it’s just sad the POTUS continues to try to spread his ignorant racism through all levels of American governance.

Its not "his" racism tho. Its white America's. Even the ones who understand that African immigrants do well here, are terrified by that. Being in America and not a "shithole country" is a position of privilege and white america sees immigration as the signing away of the privilege of their children. Their children will end up having to compete with these people on a level playing field instead of being in an inherently superior position.

I guess you guys aren't well versed in the art of trolling but the entire goal of this was to get a lot of people to start saying "America is a country of immigrants" and "we SHOULD let people come from shithole countries" and "people from shithole countries do well here" and "african immigrants are very educated" and " we shouldn't favor white immigrants" . All of these quotes that will peak in the next couple of days will terrify his base at a moment where bannon almost took them away.

To the more sophisticated conservatives/nationalists. Hearing "wanting people from countries like norway is racist" will fire them up and get them talking about the pc police and how what he said wasn't "literally racist". They want "merit based immigration" and dog whistle style racism that they can say is not racist.

I'd like to think that in the 70s, the media had less profit motive than nowadays, and more desire to actually report the news objectively.

Meanwhile, your standard for reporting is whether or not someone doubts unverified second-hand sources. But hey, Trump is bad, so therefore the media is 100% accurate and doesn't have any other motives

Again, I’m not outraged or even surprised. It’s just confirmation of what we already knew.

I've let my thoughts be known here countless times regarding how I feel about Trump. Because I'm a Republican, I feel like I have to preface every comment that isn't negative with that now.

Having said that...the whole "shithole countries" controversy...that should not have been leaked. This has a very real impact on foreign policy, and some asshole congressman thought he was being cute by taking this to the press??? Surely, Trump is not the first president to refer to any other country as a shithole country behind closed doors. I wonder what LBJ had to say about S. Vietnam behind closed doors? Or what Roosevelt had to say about Britain? Some things need to stay private.

it's a relevant issue for the public to know that the president is openly using his racism and xenophobia to form opinions and give his direction as president on policy, it's not about the bad word

I'm not saying it is.

But we don't know what other presidents have said behind closed doors that has remained private over the years. Does it give us a window into how Trump thinks? Sure. Should everyone now take that into consideration now that it has been made public? Most definitely. But it just shouldn't have been made public.

How is the WH going to be able to work with these countries after such a comment? He shouldn't have made it. But he did. Should've stayed where it was.

Was this already mentioned?

http://www.wral.com/trump-no-trip-to-london-because-of-embassy-choice/17251692/

Quote :
""Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for 'peanuts,' only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!" Trump tweeted.

The move was announced in 2008, before President Barack Obama was elected. At the time, U.S. Ambassador Robert Tuttle said the decision to move to the five-acre site on the south side of the River Thames came after a "long and careful process.""

I'd assume a few already have little intent on working with him in the first place - this is just one more comment in a whole swath of them. Besides - the "America First" thing already impeded our ability to work with many countries. Don't act like this is the reason they won't work with us all of a sudden.
