All the Enquirer has to say is that they bought it intending to run the story, then when they looked into it further, they felt like it wasn't juicy enough. BS? Sure. Provable? Not a bit.

Doesn't seem like anyone is taking these tweets seriously anymore

Definitely not like last time he did the same thing with North Korea

Hopefully Congress realizes soon their deal leader is a lame duck

It was kind of funny hearing “President Trump threatened Iran with an all caps tweet” on NPR on the way to work this morning, you know, as long as I don’t think about how this fucking idiot might actually start a war

He’s straying further and further from any semblance of coherence. He used to dabble in truth on the rare occasion by now it’s just all easily verifiable lies.

It’s kind of worrying.

truth doesn't matter, his nonsense is making him incredibly popular in his party. GWB post-9/11 is the only president with a higher party approval rating

I'm thinking about starting a new thread about Trump called "Real ways Trump's policies have affected you"

For instance, I was at the flea market at the fairgrounds this weekend, and there was an artist in one of the buildings selling a solid set of meat claws. They were custom cut, 1/4 inch restaurant grade steel - would make shredding chicken and pork so easy. He said it would probably be the last set that he makes because steel has gotten so expensive.

I also heard that if more planned tariffs go into affect, the average new vehicle cost would go up around 5800 dollars. And this coming from a conservative leaning source.

He wants to revoke security clearances for pretty much all of Obama’s cabinet. Cool...

How far along are we going to go before we can call him an authoritarian? Can we not do that because of the discourse?

None of the individuals that Trump wants to remove security clearances for were in Obama's cabinet:

former Central Intelligence Agency Director John Brennan
former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey
former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper
former director of the National Security Agency and the CIA Michael Hayden
former national security adviser and U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice
former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe

Pretty typical populist autocrat behavior. Blame all your problems on foreign enemies while providing hand outs to your supporters. See: Chavez, Hugo. The only difference is Trump has a much bigger piggybank.

Quote :
"Politically, the president has certainly taken actions which are in many ways parallel to those of the early Nazi movement. As Evans rightly notes, his propaganda machine would be immediately familiar to Joseph Goebbels’s Nazi office. The recent executive order making administrative law judges political appointees subject to executive power cannot be seen as anything less than an attempt to bring the courts in line with the administration’s political ideology. The Nazis called this “Gleichschaltung,” or coordination, as they sought to co-opt government and private organizations. Even his management style has similarities to Hitler. Like Trump, Hitler was reluctant to surrender too much authority to one subordinate, and so his Cabinet (which he never called) was a den of backbiting and maneuvering underlings seeking the support of Hitler, who was the only one who decided policy. There are similarities with Trump, even if he has not achieved this level of dominance. Let’s again be clear: Trump is not Hitler; Hitler was arguably a far more astute politician with deeply held convictions and the means to turn a fledgling democracy into a totalitarian state, something that should be much more difficult here. Nonetheless, these historical comparisons are not hyperbolic and should at least give us pause."

^4 Came here to post about the $12 bn in farmer aid. It's a fucking 2 for 1 special. Tariffs passed down onto consumers. Same consumers are also taxpayers funding the $12bn to those the govt perceives as worthy of support. And the worst part is that the congress has the power to stop all of this.

Tarrifs hurt his base significantly. Even tarrifs to help one group only end up hurting another when the retaliation comes. Historically you can find example after example of tarrif policies being huge negatives on presidents going back to Jefferson. They have rarely worked well as our economy needs the trade. Trumps presidency is so similar to Andrew Jackson it’s prety amazing.

Also the 180 on Russian meddling is brilliant. Accept they are interfering but want Democrats. Allows him a way to embrace us intelligence and evidence, and if Dems gain that will be the story and if they don’t well he overcame the odds again.

The economy will take a hit at some point and when that happens his next moves from there could be pretty scary. Could get a lot worse.

The tariffs during Jackson's time were enacted by Congress to protect northern industries in states that didn't support Jackson.

Christ. Just couldn't resist, could ya? Poverty in Venezuela under Chavez was cut in half and Extreme Poverty under Chavez was reduced from ~20% to 5%. Multiple reputable sources will confirm this. Election integrity under Chavez was widely considered to be free and fair as well.

Of course, he's a big bad scary leftist, so you have to come in here and pretend that providing handouts like healthcare and free college education to members of a country previously living in abject poverty is a bad thing or somehow on par with a right-wing fascist like Trump who fearmongers and openly promotes white nationalism.

^^^Is it any coincidence then, after reducing all of that poverty, that the county is now in financial crisis?

And fair elections? WTF are you thinking? He got the constitution amended so he could stay in an extra term, then after his eviction, he came back, took control of their supreme court, and ended term limits!

I'm sure all of those populist campaign promises he made, and using his oil money to fuel free health care didn't help put them in one of the worst economies in the world right now.

Maduro is not Chavez. There are legitimate criticisms of Maduro's government that can and should be put under scrutiny (as well as Chavez's), but I doubt you're interested in that conversation.

Quote :
"And fair elections? WTF are you thinking?"

Venezuela's voting integrity has been put under the microscope by many independent organizations and deemed legitimate. They also have a higher voter turnout than the United States. Also, we've had the last two Republican President's gain power with the help of the Supreme Court (Bush) and while losing the popular vote twice (Bush AND Trump) with embarrassingly low voter participation (due in large part to structural disenfranchisement), so maybe don't come at me with this weak-ass argument.

Quote :
"then after his eviction, he came back,"

His "eviction?" Are you referring to the failed coup-de-tat attempt against him that was backed by Venezuelan private business interests with the help of the US government? Funny how language works. Anytime someone from the lower classes or someone not deeply entrenched in the business ruling elite rises to power with the promise to distribute national resources back to workers, they are viewed as squatters who must be "evicted." He's still the most popular president in Venezuelan history, and it's not even close (over 70% popularity). Yet, regardless of how many elections they win, regardless of their popularity among the public, they are never viewed as legitimate.

Quote :
"took control of their supreme court"

This is literally the objective of every party ever, because that's how power works. FDR tried it. Hell, Merrick Fuckin' Garland is still sitting in his underwear somewhere and NOT on the Supreme Court, because, surprise surprise, we have one party in this country that sees the Supreme Court as a vessel for exercising power.

You’d have to be a fool to not think Trump has forced multiple women to get abortions. It’s not even a question.

Nor is the fact that it wouldn’t move the needle one inch. Franklin Graham would personally abort a fetus on camera if Trump asked him.
