It's like he understands that this is all an attempt to gain power.....But he can't quite figure out or admit to himself WHY they want that power to begin with.

Republicans aren't Democrats. When they get into power they use it. And they use it to remove the power of their enemies. Revoking citizenship is the next logical step in achieving that goal, and pinning your hopes on institutional checks and balances is some liberal-white-middle-class bullshit.

It won't happen (to him) so everyone else is a paranoid hippy retard rube super fag worrying about nothing.

You keep retreating to your very narrow argument that an executive order can't change the constitution like we don't already know that.

We are telling you the intent of this messaging, and you keep staring blankly back at us saying, "these go to eleven"

Dtownwral is going to show his solidarity with marginalized people as they are being dragged off to camps by yelling at them, "But that can't change the 14th amendment!" and then insulting them by referring to them as various half eaten household food items for some reason.

you can reply to them in a way that's not pretending like trump is actually going to end birthright citizenship with an executive order

for example - by calling it horseshit

Quote :

there is no right wing consensus that an executive order can change the constitution, the link i posted above is a federalist society trump judge. if you disagree please answer the question i posted above: which federal court do you think would let an executive order change the constitution?

Hey guys everyone has already agreed on what the constitution means and there is no chance a federal and Supreme Court packed with Trump sycophants will decide on a different interpretation of a short sentence.

There's no way the executive arm of the US government could decide to try deporting someone under a loose claim that they aren't citizens and have the Supreme Court uphold that. Not like the court has two Trump appointees and a 3rd with a wife that posts racist memes and conspiracy theories. You're basically relying on Roberts and Alito right? Good luck with that

^You can claim that current judges PROBABLY won't uphold something like that, and I'd agree chances are probably pretty low. But you are claiming an impossibility which is absurd. You get a good run of the right radical judges and you're relying on 5 guys.

It's not "changing the constitution" you fucking rube, jesus. It's interpreting it differently which happens all the time. Half the country doesn't agree with the interpretation of half the amendments. Did citizens United "change the constitution"??

If you admit that a judge CAN decide that way, you're argument is completely different.

You need to say "this probably won't happen you rubes" instead of "this is impossible you rubes"

And regardless of whether or not it's possible, the fact is he is claiming he wants to do it, and so a significant portion of the country is embracing this rhetoric. We need to come out strongly against the idea itself, or else we're fucking terrible allies. We aren't just playing electoral politics here.

no.

it would be a fundamental change, it would go against the point of the amendment and no court would go along with it

trump won't even try

if congress starts talking about it then it's worth paying attention to

right now it's hot air

it's hot air for the right, it helps them get votes and get power

democrats acting like it's real only helps the right

immigration is generally a losing issue for democrats even when the right side is operating in good(ish for them at least) faith. this is 100% bad faith hot air nonsense, it's a double loser for democrats.

Not everyone that voted on that amendment agrees with you. And 2 Supreme Court justices disagreed in the precedence case just 20 years later so....

Also the term "illegal immigrant" didn't exist at the time so its silly to say the amendment was intended to give those children citizenship.

Also my reaction to this has absolutely no effect on anyone not reading this thread. As for me, it just makes me more solidly democrat, so I'm not sure how that helps republicans

winning narrative:
you can draw a direct line from the vitriolic language about the caravan and birthright immigration to the dead bodies in pittsburgh and the 12 bombs sent last week

losing narrative:
trump says he might issue an executive order to end birthright immigration, let's talk about what that would look like and if its possible and what that would mean.

last week the media was on the first one, now they are on the second one and you all are clamoring for more of it

Oh my fucking God. He was going to do this anyway. Authoritarian leaders always do. It's not something that can be ignored. You can't ignore fascistic threats. You have to expose their threats for what they truly are. In this case, the concept of "controlling immigration" as actually about revoking.citizenship for non-whites. The suggestion that this is paid by Soros is a clear anti-semetic dog whistle that suggests that Jews are secretly conspiring to destroy the white race. You have to make it clear that a vote for Republicans at this point in time is a vote for ethnic cleansing. Republicans are openly declaring who their enemies are so that they can kill them and call it an act of self defense.

Stop trying to expose his past crimes and start planning how to prevent his future ones. He's fucking telling you who his targets are. Believe him.

Yeah, sure thing, boss. You've spent the past two pages autistically screeching about the 14th amendment. It's pretty clear that your suggestion to fight Trump's threat of eliminating brown-skinned Americans is to fact-check him to death.

So while you're sitting in your chair yelling, "reeeeEEEE, Syntax Error, Syntax Error, Invalid input, reeee!!!! Cannot change 14th amendment with executive order, reeee!!!", he and his followers are in the corner ignoring you and asking themselves what their final solution will be for handling the "immigration question"
