mueller's directive is not to find the first illegal thing he has good evidence for, it is to investigate any links and coordination with Russia and any matters that arise directly from the investigation. his investigation is much bigger than the president directing to cohen to lie, that's just a small part.

Wasn't there always potential that Bob Mueller could release a report on obstruction charges that's separate from the counter-intelligence report?

I guess that the possibly that the obstruction charges are also tied into the counter-intelligence charges would prevent any obstruction-focused report from being released in advance.

Interesting, considering Guiliani admitted today Trump did talk to cohen about his testimony, and Trump was pursuing the moscow tower deal up to the election (obviously in a reversal of previous statements).

Guiliani also mentioned that it was someone in Trump's orbit that pushed the Peter Carr to release a comment on behalf of the special counsel, which, if true, would be a violation of special counsel regulations.
