People brought up in their 20s through rightwing think tanks or the WSJ opinion page are a scourge.

Strassel and Bret Stephens are the worst.

Trump is Reagan 2.0. They are cutting food stamps right now but the media couldn't care less because democrats would rather split hairs over a phone call than worry with such plebeian matters.

The only good thing about these insane statements is learning stuff like some Kurds did fight in the British army during WW2.

US government has been an arm of multinational corporations for half a century now. It's just a convenience that they have a radical corporatist as president.

Isn't having U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia one of the reasons we were attacked on 9/11?

Saw where the leader of the Kurds we’re working with said he’ll have to ask Russia for help against Turkey If US Abandons them.

So it looks like the goal might be to carve up Syria between Saudi, Turkey, and Russia maybe?

How dare this president bring out troops out of quagmire and allow the regional powers to handle a regional issue on the other side of the globe. This might do permanent damage to our ability to wage war around the world. Our reputation as a willing intervener is forever tarnished. So unAmerican.

https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-syria-mistake-thought-turkey-bluffed-invasion-axios-2019-10

Trump supposedly thought turkey was bluffing and felt Erdogan would get blamed instead of trump. Erdogan was surprised trump didn’t ask for anything in return for letting turkey invade.

^^except 2000 troops are being added to Saudi for no good reason while the gop continues to increase defense spending. We’re getting the worst of all world— not enough money spent on domestic issues, no leverage or credibly with potential allies, former allies being cleansed, and a huge number of new, well trained and armed people who hate us.

This seems worth posting here.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/14/isis-prisoners-are-escaping-from-camps-in-syria-amid-turkish-offensive.html

Quote :
"Islamic State fighters are seizing a chance to escape and regroup as U.S.-allied Kurdish forces turn their attention from guarding thousands of captive extremists to defending themselves from Turkey's assault.

More than 800 suspected IS detainees escaped the Ayn Issa camp in northern Syria on Sunday, Kurdish forces said in a statement, five days into Turkey's military incursion into norther Syria.

Jelal Ayaf, co-chair of Ayn Issa camp, told local media that 859 people 'successfully escaped' the section of the camp holding foreign nationals. He also said attacks were already being carried out by 'sleeper cells' that had emerged from inside the camp, which holds IS prisoners, internally displaced persons and families or affiliates of IS fighters. While some escapees could be recaptured, he described the situation in the camp as 'very volatile.'"

Seems like the disaster in Syria was fomented as a cover to start dismantling nato maybe?

Certainly seems likely this is all just sporadic actions by trump

But hard to really accept this

Kushner is supposed to be in charge of all this and he’s already blundered several things so i could see trump following his advice here

Former marine on my Facebook who also is an immigrant is very pissed about the trump and Syria thing. First time I’ve ever seen this person post anything political. I know military people tend to be jaded about this kind of thing but this person was almost having a crisis realizing they weren’t fighting for their country but instead fighting to protect the whims of wealthy white billionaires. They took comfort in the fact that they were also fighting for their fellow soldiers they served with.

But i have to imagine lots of other military people are coming to the same realization when the President says out loud he’s sending people to possibly die in Saudi Arabia and brags they’re paying us good money for it.

You obviously don't know many marines, or military of any kind for that matter. They aren't jaded to politicians, they just find a higher calling to serve their country and protect their buddies fighting with them. In general, Marines actually see pretty clearly when a politician is bullshitting them.

He doesn't need a plan for Syria. He's the president of the United States, not Syria.

Then they are either idiots, pieces of shit, or both. The US marines haven't served our country since the civil war.

I don't understand why this has been allowed to become a thing.

I don't understand why the National Security Advisor is personally involved.

I don't understand why the President is personally involved.

I really don't understand why Trump is holding "Would you like to meet the killer?" ambush meetings at the White House.

I saw this referenced yesterday, from the January 2017 DNI report assessing Russian activities and intentions in recent U.S. elections:

Quote :
"Pro-Kremlin proxy Vladimir Zhirinovskiy, leader of the nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, proclaimed just before the election that if President-elect Trump won, Russia would 'drink champagne' in anticipation of being able to advance its positions on Syria and Ukraine."

I am the only person who can fight for the safety of our troops & bring them home from the ridiculous & costly Endless Wars, and be scorned. Democrats always liked that position, until I took it. Democrats always liked Walls, until I built them. Do you see what’s happening here?"
