If I could hand pick the next debate this is who I’d put in:

Harris
Warren
Castro
Booker
Gilibrand
Sanders
Yang

^^ 10 person debates even over 2 hours are a nightmare

No way to make this better without fewer people

Or give each person 2 6 minute speeches Lincoln-Douglas style

Disagree. I think the majority of even primary voters don’t listen or analyze policy ideas.

They look at energy and facial expressions and how someone interacts with others.

Trump did nothing but spout nonsense and gop voters loved it. How will casual people view these candidates?

This was an entirely FOX/2016 Trump style “debate”

Ratings grab geared towards the lowest common denominator

Turn on CNN post-game if you want to feel extra played for watching

If it was a planned line she wouldn’t have flubbed it

She said “they want to know how we’re going to put food on the table”

Politicians don’t put food on our tables. They help us put food on our own tables ideally.

Definitely expect to see right wingers talking about that.

It was definitely a planned line. Not taking anything away from her by saying that, because she nailed the delivery and got it in early without looking awkward like Beto's answering (avoiding) a question in Spanish. Hell even CNN was able to pick up she had that planned: https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/27/politics/who-won-democratic-debate-night-2/index.html

Biden lost some marks for me. Buttegig did impress me. Gillibrand was wwwaaaaayyyyy too hard. Bernie I lost a little respect for because he was still just trying to reiterate the same facts over and over instead of delivering a strong message and I couldn't get over how he'd lean in (not in the good way) every time a moderator would ask a question because he can't really hear.

From the previous debate, I'm actually less interested in Booker and certainly less for Beto. De Blasio and Castro did step it up for me.

Next debate I could take the following, in no particular order:

Warren
Castro
De Blasio
Buttegig
Harris

If we need to add a few others I'd take Bennet, Binden, and Sanders. Mostly to give Bennet a chance and let the other to flounder out.

How did Buttigieg impress you?

To me he looked weak when he couldn’t answer questions about the shooting in his own city. He kept bringing up his experience but in an awkward way, sort of like how someone would do in a job interview they weren’t quite qualified for. I don’t doubt he’s very intelligent but he doesn’t seem like he’s as good as thinking on his feet in a debate style discussion.

Quote :
"* Pete Buttigieg: If you knew nothing about Buttigieg going into Thursday night, you would have assumed from his performance that a) he was a senator or a governor who had been at this for a long time and b) a co-frontrunner with Harris in the race. That person would be stunned to learn that Buttigieg is currently the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and running at the back of the lead pack. He was serious, smart, thoughtful and probing. His outspokenness on why Democrats need not cede religion to Republicans was powerful. His answer on the officer-involved shooting in his hometown was clearly well rehearsed, yes, but it was about as a good an answer as he could give on such a difficult issue. Buttigieg has lots and lots of natural political ability -- and it shone through on Thursday night."

Quote :
"South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg: This was a minefield for Buttigieg, and talking about his stewardship of South Bend, Ind., after police shot and killed a black man was inevitable. Then Buttigieg did something novel: Admit some fault. Asked why he had so few black police officers in a diverse city, Buttigieg responded, “Because I couldn’t get it done.” Humility is okay. And when talking about other issues like free college and health care, he managed to offer bold ideas but emphasize realism. If he can get past the problems in his hometown, his performance suggested future debates could be more fruitful."

Quote :
"Buttigieg also had a good night. He came across as low-key and thoughtful when he was asked about a fatal police shooting in South Bend last week, sparking a furor that forced him to curtail campaigning for several days to deal with tensions there. "It's a mess, and we're hurting," Buttigieg said, saying he had taken some steps but not enough to deal with the issue before the tragedy happened."

Quote :
"At another point, Buttigieg seemed to strike a chord when he cast his criticism of the Trump administration's controversial policy of forcibly separating migrant children from their parents in religious terms. "For a party that associates with Christianity, to say it is OK to suggest that God would smile on the division of families at the hands of federal agents, that God would condone putting children in cages, has lost all claim to ever use religion language again," he said."

Quote :
"South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg jumped in on the debate, "This is tearing communities apart. If more guns made us safer, we would be the safest country on Earth. It doesn't work that way.""

Quote :
""Until we move policing out from the shadow of systemic racism and whatever this teaches us, there is a wall of mistrust put up one racist act at a time not from what happened in the past, but what happened in the present," he added."

Quote :
""So college affordability is personal for us. Chasten and I have six-figure student debt. If you can refinance your house, you ought to be able to refinance your debt. I believe in free college for those for whom cost could be a barrier. I just don't believe it makes sense to ask working-class families to subsidize even the children of billionaires.""

Quote :
"Later in the debate, the candidates were asked which country they would try to repair U.S. relations with first as president. Buttigieg ducked the question by attacking Trump hard.

“We have no idea which of our important allies, he will have pissed off worst between now and then,” he said."

yeah, I think ^ pretty much sums it up. @moron i'm not sure which debate you watched but universally everyone agrees Buttegig's answer to the shooting question was done well and with grace and that Harris' interjection about food fight vs food on table was planned (again not a bad thing).

Are you serious, with either of those questions?

Also I'm pretty sure the black community in South Bend is NOT happy with Buttigieg. And I thought Bennet staggered him with the fire your chief, left Pete a little speechless and took the air out of him.

Buttigieg is gay. That's why he has no chance with black voters.

And he stared him down because his comment was completely ridiculous. An officer shoots a suspect and the circumstances are under investigation. How does that equal firing the chief or blaming the mayor?

Ok to answer your question, a black woman is PROBABLY going to be FOR school and Kamala was pretty clearly stating that she fits that profile. And its an issue bc a major candidate was against school integration and still thinks that was a good decision.

So what's her plan for busing? Remember when the busing people got shown the door in Wake county? I don't think there is much support for that. It seems like a really odd thing to bring up in a presidential debate.

It seems to me little more than a lame attempt at swiftboating Biden, who in actuality has done far more for civil rights than Harris ever will. She's a prosecutor for Pete's sake. Her job is sending black people to prison.

You can make arguments about the effectiveness of busing, but it's clearly put in place in an attempt to reduce segregation, and the strongest arguments against are from white people that don't want brown people in their schools. A candidate opposing that, and giving a terrible reason, is important and worth mentioning. Not to mention that he worked the bill with white supremacists and spoke glowingly at another white supremacists funeral. He has many skeletons in his closet and they will hurt if he is the nominee.
