It boils down to whether or not we should simply respond to crises in a reactionary way after they happen or have a system in place that is disaster resilient. Trump is the president during this crisis. Neither of these men will be in charge of addressing this crisis right now.

So, where are we with the elections being postponed.

I am so caught in the middle on this and it’s mostly due to the voting system in this country being a god damn disgrace. On one side, obviously it’s a public health crisis and no one should be in a line with a hundred people for hours on end. You almost have no choice but to postpone. I totally get it. Vote by mail should be standard and it NEEDS to be ready nationwide by November at ANY cost (State level, I know).

On the other hand, there is something deeply, deeply unsettling at governors openly defying the courts to postpone elections on the eve of said election. I know, right now, it’s in good faith (mostly talking about DeWine) but it’s a small step past that and into authoritarianism.

bernie was down big in the polls. he wasn't going to win under normal conditions. having the election now was dangerous and irresponsible. Delyaing the election (until who knows when) may have changed the dynamic to benefit bernie but even that is unlikely. I think people are angry that it seems they chose to keep it going BECAUSE bernie was losing and they didn't want to take any chances.

probably would have been a good reason for Bernie to acknowledge the reality of his campaign at this point and have dropped out so that the Dem party wouldn't have to make the difficult decisions they did and they could go ahead and cancel the rest of the primaries without being.

By not dropping out, Bernie is responsible for us having to keep holding these primary elections

downballot elections can much more easily be rescheduled for a month or two later. we all know that in practical terms the urgency is around the presidential election, for better or for worse

do not confuse me suggesting that Bernie should drop out with me being supportive of the DNC or the Democratic establishment. you all want to blame only the DNC and everybody else who doesn't have the head up Bernie's ass, when Bernie clearly had a role to play in this calculus as well

and that's exactly what should have happened. prioritize public health by rescheduling the elections, which while not ideal would still have left enough time for almost all downballot races to have a competitive and fair evaluation for voters

it's not entirely on Bernie, of course. but it's not entirely on the DNC either. it's a difficult decision to make, which is why some states ended up going ahead, and others didn't. But if Bernie had suspended his campaign a week or even days ago, it would have made it a lot simpler choice for states to make.

Yes - reschedule the entire primary. In fact, Bernie was the only candidate calling for this, while the DNC was threatening states and telling them they would lose delegates if they rescheduled.

And again, rescheduling the primaries is not contingent upon him dropping out - we're taking issue with you siding with the Neera Tandens of the world who are disingenuously putting the blame on Sanders for this.
